I just want to state for the record that while I want to see Jim Hendry and his antiquated approach to player evaluation gone, I know that he is still FAR from the worst option out there.

There are many other potential GM's with a poor understanding of statistical analysis who would not be able to pull off a Lee for Choi or Nomar deal.

I think Jim's philosophy of building the system from the ground up is the correct one, and his recent attempts to acquire younger talent instead of McGriff types are admirable. If he just valued OBP% more, I believe he could be a very good general manager.

I fear Gary Hughes.

FitzSimmons is making it sound like McDonough is going to be interim president for a year.

That's what I'm worried about. If MacPhail is just being replaced by someone from the same inept organization (at least in the short term) can we really expect the sweeping changes that this club seems to need? Maybe McDonough really will make an effort to shake things up and get the organizational philosophy straightened out, but the fact that he's been around for a while doesn't give me a lot of hope that this move will do much for the Cubs over the next couple years.

McDonough: My goal is for the Cubs to win the World Series. Not win the wild card, the division, the pennant. It's time to win the World Series.

Well, I hope he means it.

yes me too, he went on to say if we dont, im not doing my job

Saying all the right surface things. MCDunough saying the one and only goal is to win the world series. Anything less is not doing his job.

Edited for wrong speaker.

Well look forward to ads on the back of players jerseys, probably on nearby churches too.

If it means a world series I could give two cents.

McDonough is probably the closest person to MacPhail as one could get aside from Hendry.

His role will be pretty similar to what MacPhail's was.

Even when talking about the managing position, they're going out of their way to avoid saying Dusty's name.

Here's a problem worth mulling over:

Given that MacPhail is gone and McDonough is going to be interim for a year, what manager in his right mind would want to come into Chicago knowing that the front office might be completely overhauled by the start of 2008?

He then goes and buys a lottery ticket. "I hope I get a winner!"

I'm guessing the incentive is going to be $$$.

McDonough is saying the right things so far.

Uh oh, just said that Andy MacPail is a winner. There goes his credibility.

Has faith in Jim Hendry. Kill me now.

he also said that he was a winner because of Minnesota's rings not what happened with the cubs

John Mcdonough is not the answer.

I have my doubts as well.

McDonough: "The Tribune has been a tremendous owner for the Cubs. In some cases we [the Cubs] may not have been as prudent or judicious in some of our acquisitions as we could have been."

It was a bit of an exageration, but still, the dude will put ads in even more places. Landmark? I don't see no landmark...
