It's his opinion and he's speaking his mind. Are we really going to police the different definitions of garbage? It's kinda silly isn't it?

I'm not policing anything, and the guy already apologized and called it inappropriate, so my guess is it's not really his opinion, he was just spouting off. I'm merely pointing out the difference between calling a player garbage, based on his production, and calling somebody human garbage. I think Andy is probably a very fine man. And I think his resignation was the honorable thing to do. I don't think he was a garbage president, but I think he was mediocre, and that should not be acceptable.

Good riddance, you sweater-vest-wearing piece of human garbage.
Way out of line. You could have stopped with good riddance. Referring to him as "human garbage" isn't welcome here.

I agree that it's not appropriate, but why is it okay for people to call players "garbage" and "trash" on here all the time, but not the team president?

What I objected to was calling him human garbage; that made it personal, rather than a commentary on his performance. If he was referred to as a garbage president, although I myself wouldn't have used that wording, I wouldn't have objected when someone else did.

And, as Forrest Gump would say, that's all I've got to say about that. I agree with Cuse's request to keep this thread about MacPhail's leaving; I just wanted to respond to the posts specifically aimed at my post.

Apologies if this came up somewhere on the thread...I only read about half of it.

Wasn't McDonough the same guy that had a meal with Stoney last week? With Brenley maybe heading to the bay, should I be reading into that at all?

McDonough is indeed the same guy who had lunch with Steve Stone. He and Stone are really good friends, from my understanding.

Yes, and don't forget that last week John McDonough was the senior vice president of marketing AND broadcasting.

So do we think Stone might be the next president of the Cubs? Don't think I like this idea too much.

That would have disaster written all over it. Since McDonough is the interim president, and he's the one apparantly enamored with Stone, my guess is he's in-line for a job under president, but I doubt the Trib would put the entire organization under Stone's control, given his complete lack of any business success.

I can't imagine the Cubs would be that stupid.

I'm 100% behind NC on this.

I agree as well.

A garbage player (talent wise) could be a very nice person and vice versa. It's important to differentiate between the two.

Remember. This is the Cubs.

Steve Stone has said he does not want to have anything to do with the business side of baseball. If anything, Mcdunough might have just been getting some advice, or possibly talking about steves interest in coming back to the booth, if brenly gets a manager job.
