Sportsline is pretty undecided about this game. 3 picks for Seattle. 3 for Chicago. And Harmon was one of the Chicago backers, after having gone against Chicago in just about every game last year.

Sexy Rexy wins NFC Offensive Player of the Month

http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=2480

Having revived the passing game while leading the Bears to a 3-0 start, quarterback Rex Grossman on Thursday was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for September.

“It just shows that we’re off to a good start as an offense,” Grossman said. “I think that’s pretty much a team award when your quarterback wins something like that. A lot of guys have been playing well and have stepped it up, (offensive coordinator) Ron Turner included. I’m happy about it, but I think our offense should be just as happy.”

Grossman is the first Bears player to win an NFC Offensive Player of the Month award since Neal Anderson in September 1989, a span of 17 years.

Anyone else excited to see how the Bears do against a 4 receiver set?

Bears defensive backs are not too concerned about the matchups against Seattle. They believe the Seahawks should worry about how four wideouts mean two or possibly three of the Bears' front four will be going against single blocking.

"I haven't seen them get blocked [one-on-one]," cornerback Nathan Vasher said. "I think they are the best in the league."

The Bears plan on still using 2 linebackers against the 4 receiver set.

As far as our receivers go, this is a nice quote:

Forget about Seattle's wide receivers. Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren, who knows some things about receivers, paused Wednesday in his coach-speak admiration of the Bears' offense to note, "I really like their receivers. My goodness, I really like their receivers."

a Chicago Bear wins offensive player of the month.

I think I am still in shock, it hasn't sunk in yet.

Beyond that, a Chicago Bear QB, of all positions.

That said, I'm surprised Kramer never got one in 95.

Good thing we have a lot of depth this year at DB.

Fact or fiction for Joe Theismann: The Seahawks are still the best team in the NFC.

Fiction: With Shaun Alexander out indefinitely, the Seahawks take a step back and the Bears become the best team in the NFC. Chicago has a tremendous defense that has the ability to dominate teams. The Bears also have a solid offense that has added a passing game (thanks to Rex Grossman) to a solid running game. The Bears are doing an excellent job of implementing coach Lovie Smith's ball-control offense, while also taking enough shots downfield to keep opposing defenses honest. This team has all the tools to make a deep playoff, run thanks to the strong coaching hand of Smith.

Great Joe, now, who do you pick to win the game?

Joe picks the Seahawks

The Giants' secondary is awful.

CB Corey Webster

CB Sam Madison

FS Will Demps

SS Gabril Wilson

NB R.W. McQuarters

Not good.

CB Vasher

CB Tillman

SS Brown

FS Manning

NB Manning, Jr

Very good. Arguably the best in the league.

It's going to be a different ball game passing against the Bears than it was passing against the Giants.

The Giants are supposed to have a strong pass rush, though, nobody has seen it yet. They have great DE's. But the Bears are strong in all 4 DL positions. I think it will be a good test for the Bears DBs. I do worry about the 4 WR set a little with a rookie FS and a still not 100% Mike Brown. But all 3 CBs for the Bears are better than any the Seahawks have faced this year.

Seahawks actually, I would say has the best DBs. Front 4 ok, back 7, are pretty good. Interesting to see if the Bears can throw as well as they have been.

From that article...

"Defensively, we're a lot better," punter Brad Maynard said, comparing this year's Bears to last year's model.

Whoa. To get an opinion on the Bears defense, im going to talk to the authority on that subject himself and get a quote from the punter Brad Maynard.

Is it really a good idea to try and spread the Bears out? If they are going to try this Hasselback will be on his back all night.

I'm really starting to get annoyed at all the body language police piling on Benson.

right?

and i think he realizes that the reason he didn't play against the vikings was that they were blitzing on every play and he needs to improve his blocking. if seattle doesn't blitz as much, we'll see benson in this game.

benson will get his shot eventually, and we'll like him much more than jones.

They will. We will be seeing many many blitzes after the way last week went. Gotta get the run game going

I agree but picking up the blitzes at home should be easier without the crowd noise.

"If you look at our four wide receivers we put on the field today, we got a mismatch somewhere," Matt Hasselbeck said after carving up the Giants. "Sometimes everywhere."

Yea, Matt, especially with your o-line trying to block our defensive linemen one on one.

To me that a key aspect of this game. It doesn't matter if you have receiver mismatches if you are on your back. The other key is that Grossman can't be throwing balls up for grabs under pressure. The Bears need to win the turnover battle.

Actually it makes me really nervous. I think we could really lose this game.

So you're saying most of the sacks Seattle has are coverage sacks?

I think it will depend on how much time Grossman has and the decisions he makes. If he has a lot of pressure from the Seattle rush and makes bad decisions the Bears will have problems. I think he will and Seattle will win by more than 10.

It's possible, but I'm not that worried about it. The D-line will get to Hasslebeck in a hurry when they go with 4 WR's. I'm strangely more confident about this than I really was with the Vikings.

Bears 21 Seahhawks 13

I don't share the confidence most of you guys have. I think allowing three field goals to Minnesota makes the defense sound much better than they actually performed, and Seattle's offense won't be nearly as forgiving. Mixed in with the complete absence of running game and Rex's displayed inability to operate under pressure, I think we'll at least need to see something out of the Bears we haven't seen yet this year (running game!) in order for them to win, and I have little confidence in that aspect coming around.

The Cubs fan in me predicts Seattle 21, Bears 13.

This confuses me. The first three points allowed were the result of a pick in the secondary that wasn't called and three of the other points were a result of a Rex interception that was returned into near field goal range. The defense has been rock solid. The Bears aren't going to shut out everyone and teams are going to get yards. The D has givien up 5 and a third points per game and they usually play better at home.
