Week 4: Seahawks @ BEARS - Sunday Oct. 1, 7:15 cst NBC

Posted
This is going to be a tough one. Soldier Field is going to be rocking though. Seatle didn't play well against Detroit on the road and the Hawks usually dominate at home. Hopefully they'll stumble this weekend.

T. Jones needs to stay on the bench.

Fixed.

Here's pulling for that homefield advantage to really be a factor! This game may have big implications on whose stadium we're playing in if we face Seattle in the playoffs. IF we win this one, I can't see the Bears going worse than 13-3. If we lose, I think our worse case scenario is 11-5. I have a hard time seeing Seattle doing any worse than 12-4. If they beat us, I predict they'll finish no worse than 13-3 at years end.

You think 11-5 is worst case if they lose to Seattle?

My first instinct was to say worst case has to be worse than that. But then I looked at the schedule. If they lose to Seattle, and 2 of 3 on the east coast swing, that's 3 totals losses. Leaving room for 2 more to drop to 11-5, and I'm not sure there are 2 more losses on the schedule aside from Seattle, a NY team and NE. You might be right.

A win here sets the Bears up for 14-2 as a possibility.

This really is a huge game, and I'm guessing NBC will be doing its best to promote the heck out of it. This is the type of game they were looking to get when they got back into football.

Im worried about this game. Hasselback is a good Qb. He was torching the Giants. The Giants might be bad against the pass but 35-0 is crazy.

The combination of a the power run game (bears run weakness) and Hasselback's West Coast short/intermediate routes could spell disaster. I love this defense but this is going to be a tough road to hoe for them.

This will be a huge litmus test for the Bears. The media will be all over the place if they lose and ill have to put up with the 'see i told you so, the Bears are overrated' crap. That will probably piss me off more than losing. This team is going to lose games and Rex is going to have a bad game here and there. Its going to happen, but please for the love of god not this week.

This is national television. There are going to be a lot people watching this. Its time to show the country how far this team has come and where it can go.

Brings back memories of the playoff loss. Carolina was coming off a blow-out against the Giants, just like Seattle. Delhomme didn't throw for a ton of yards, and it was mostly about the running game. In this case, Seattle didn't establish the run against NY, but Hasselback didn't throw for a ton of yards either. Seattle also turned the ball over yesterday, something teams can't do if they want to beat the Bears.

I'm hoping that this week was a bit of a wake up call to the Bears that they need to be sharp out there on the field, or they're very beatable. I think the Bears definitely have the talent to win every game this season (16-0! WOO!) but they have to want it, and push for it. I'll say 13-3 this season...not ready to predict this weeks game though.

I dunno.....

I mean, I agree it should serve as a wakeup call that we need to play at 100% every game, but I'm against this view that the Bears were "lucky" or should have lost the game.

When you see a team knifing through an OLine as talented as the Vikes late in the 4th quarter to force a turnover, then witness your offense strike downfield for a TD........that's so far away from luck or good fortune it isn't even funny.

Most defenses would have been too gassed to ever considering making a huge play like that in the backfield late in the 4th. Heck, most teams would have been too deflated PERIOD after the Grossman INT.

Vikes are a definite playoff contending team in my book. You waltz up there and beat them, in their house, with that crowd? That's some serious football right there.

We're going to destroy those guys in December @ Soldier Field.

I agree that they did some things right, but they sure did some things wrong. The tackling was horrible. There's really no way around that. They took a long time to adjust to Minnesota's blitzes, though they did adjust by the time we needed it at the end. And although some of the penalties can be attributed to poor officiating, they really need to make sure those don't happen. I just hope that they come out a little more crisp all around on Sunday night.

You're right, mistakes were made. I attribute some of that to just the fact that they can't hear themselves think with an enclosed, roaring crowd of 70,000. Not all of it, though.

Blitz adjustment was a problem.......I knew Minny's blitzes were going to be difficult because I watched what they did against Carolina and it was impressive. Thing is, Seattle does alot of the same stuff so I'm glad we got some good practice Sunday.

No excuse for 10 penalties @ Soldier Field. I will be watching that closely, as I know you will.

It's just really, really tough to go up there and beat the Vikes. Even Favre used to struggle with it in his prime. I'm proud of the Bears, for sticking with it for 60 minutes and coming out on top. In years past, this would have never, never happened. We would have folded after the Grossman INT, no question in my mind.

Do you think the Bears could get Tampa's first rounder for Brian Griese right now?

Heh...maybe if they weren't 0-3.

Didn't think so either. But I wonder if they would even talk. Despite the hot start, I'm not sure Angelo would be all that keen on leaving Orton as the backup to Rex right now. I have to believe Tampa stills wants to salvage something out of this season, which was supposed to be a playoff season.

I don't think Angelo would do that. As great as Rex has played, he's still never completed a full season.

Madden and Michaels were already hyping it during last night's clunker.

Omar San Jose, Ca: Who do you like this week Chicago or Seattle and why?

Dean Dalton: (1:10 PM ET ) I like Chicago. I'll tell you why, Omar. I think Chicago will contain Shaun Alexander and harass Hasselbeck more than he has seen this season. Yesterday Hasselbeck has 5 TDs but he also had 3 INTs.

I do think next week's game is winnable if we play better than last week. And I don't want to get ahead of myself for fear of bringing down the jinx.....so let me preface this with a big *KNOCK ON WOOD*

Still, I think it's worth pointing out. Look at the schedule after the Seattle game:

10/8 VS. BUFFALO BILLS

10/16 @ ARIZONA CARDINALS

10/29 VS. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

11/5 VS. MIAMI DOLPHINS

11/12 @ NEW YORK GIANTS

11/19 @ NEW YORK JETS

11/26 @ NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

12/3 VS. MINNESOTA VIKINGS

12/11 @ ST. LOUIS RAMS

12/17 VS. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

12/24 @ DETROIT LIONS

12/31 VS. GREEN BAY PACKERS

 Looking at how the Giants played this weekend, and the Patriots........and the Bills

There's nothing but very, very winnable games on the schedule after Seattle. Sure, there's a big 3 game road trip but even assuming we drop 2 of those 3 games-----how does this Bear team finish less than 12-4, worst case?

I don't think the tackling was that bad throughout the game. There were a few plays that really stood out that had me cursing at the TV, but those were only a few plays, tackling as a whole throughout the game was probably maybe slightly below average (the average we would expect from the Bears, that is...).

I was most concerned how long it took the line to adjust to the blitzes too. That was perhaps the worst game I can recall seeing out of Kruetz. I didn't realize it during the game, but I saw online that John Tait got hurt during the game? I may have been in the bathroom when that happened. Anyone got any updates on him?

Man Law. That word is not allowed in any Bear thread.

That and the any given sunday principle. And it's hard to really judge a couple of those teams (namely the Patriots) after 3 weeks. Remember we started last year 1-3, teams can turn around.

Shaun Alexander is out for this weekend's game...broken foot, just heard on the Score.

It's a shame, now people will have another excuse when the Bears beat Seattle. Plus, he hasn't been running all that great this year, anyway.

Well, that depends. If the Bears come out and dominate like I'm predicting they will, it wont matter if gale sayers was supposed to be starting at HB. I have da bears holding seattle to 2 TD's or less and winning by 20
