That's obviously what was being said. Crimeny, all anyone did was show some optimism about what the season may hold, and Cuse was the one that started the conversation for crying out loud. I mean, I can understand hawkeyecub being bitter about the potential matchup they lost(I wasn't around when the situation happened, but from what I have heard there's more to it than you're implying), but I don't get it otherwise.

I'm just giving you guys a hard time. There's so many of you here you need some people to keep your feet on the ground. You guys should win 8 games, maybe more in that league, I just thought the Gameday stuff is a little bit unrealistic.

As far as the scheduling issue, I'd like to hear what any of you guys have heard down there. When Mizzou backed out, there was a lot of speculation and rumors which all had the same tone, but Bowlsby (our former A.D) kind of gave the full story on his way out to Stanford, so I'll give you that.

Both Iowa and Mizzou thought it would be beneficial for both teams on many levels.

Heading into '03 there was a lot of optimism in Mizzou and fans were pumped about Pinkel, Smith and the direction of the program. '03 was a decent season but not as good as it could have been or some fans thought it should have been.

'04 was a disaster and Pinkel knew he needed a bowl game (maybe bowl win) and big season in Smith's senior year to keep his job. They weren't really expecting Iowa to be coming off their 3rd straight #8 ranking in the country to finish the season. It was a likely loss.

So they called Bowlsby's office and said they had to drop out of the '05 game because they wanted to play Arkansas State at Arrowhead, a great opportunity. Of course they said they would be glad to honor the rest of the schedule (2 home games at Mizzou, 1 at Iowa) if we wanted.

It was all last minute and pretty low class. Iowa had to move Ball State back a week and add Northern Iowa last year and then Montana State this year. It makes it look like Iowa is just adding 1-AA creampuffs when in fact they were willing to go on the road and have a 4-game series with a decent Big 12 program. Plus it hurt us in prep for the Iowa State game last year. Instead of having a solid look the week before, our starters could only play a half in a 56-0 rout of Ball State.

I don't hate Mizzou and always pulled for them against just about everyone in the Big 12. But Snyder and Pinkel just...blech

That's basically what I've heard. I can't say I'm proud of our program backing out of Iowa, but it all happened before I got here. It would've been awesome to play Iowa, as a bunch of my friends go there, but what can ya do.

Also, you and I are on that same page with that last sentence.

Notre Dame will win and cover the spread at Michigan State. I haven't been this certain about a game in some time.

Casey Clausen will also win 3 Heisman's, or at least Beno Cook will say so. I will never bet on ND over Michigan State.

The Michigan-Wisky game REAKS of a trap. I know UW has no offense, but I could see Michigan laying down to Wisconsin. As much as I enjoyed last weeks win, I still can't shake the feeling that its the same old Michigan and the OSU/ND/PSUs on the schedule won't take them down, it will be the Minny/UW's that will

Shouldn't Alden be blamed more than Pinkel? I'm no big fan Pinkel, and I really disliked Snyder a lot, but I really, really dislike the Athletic Director Mike Alden. The crap he has pulled, from pulling tailgating zones, to his inept handling of the Snyder fiasco last year has made lots of Tiger faithful upset.

As far as Gameday goes, it's really nothing more than wishful thinking. Obviously Missouri would need to be undefeated or at one loss, and I'm not sure if that is going to happen, but I would hope if they were and OU was at one maybe two losses, the guys who decide would at least mention Columbia as a possibility.

And I for one do not think Gameday will be making its way to Columbia. I'm just really, really, really hoping that Oklahoma is at least a 6 oclock start.

Pretty impossible considering Casey exhausted his college eligiblity six years ago.

Even though MSU has dominated them in that series for basically a decade? And the game is at MSU?

Although I'm not sure why Truffle is so positive either, to be fair, the Irish have won the last two in East Lansing.

Because ND looked flat at home and Truffle doesn't think Weis will allow them to come out flat again?

Most of the time I'd agree completely, but Weis was - I don't want to say out-coached, because his team was down by 20 before the offense could really even get into a rhythm - but he had far from his best day, and I would think that Michigan would be high up on the list of games to not allow something like that to happen in.

I'm with Truffle, I think ND wins by about 20.

But those are the only two victories agains MSU since 97. I really think MSU is going to beat them this weekend.

I thought the past doesn't matter? Or is that just WV's past?

"Good" Top 25 games

-------------------------

Wisconsin at (6) Michigan (12 pm, ESPN)

(12) Notre Dame at Michigan State (8 pm, ABC)

(20) Boston College at NC State (8 pm, ESPN2)

It pains me to say it as a Badger fan, but at games end you might even want to put this game in the 'mismatch' category. Based on what I've seen from Wisconsin so far, Michigan should win this game pretty handidly. Badgers should be competitive defensively, but offensively their team is waaaaay too young. PJ Hill looks to be the next in line of very solid RB's, but the OL is inconsistent and Stocco has really no one to throw to yet.

Maybe so, but its never a good idea to take the Badgers lightly, especially their defense. Im glad this game is in Ann Arbor and not at Camp Randall. I wouldnt like them going to CR after the win in South Bend.

What do you think about your ex-coach possibly going to Miami? Coker is toast unless they win out from here.

This will definitely be an interesting situation to watch. Barry almost left for Miami before, if given a second chance, would he take it? The interviews I've seen of him recently show to me that he's very antsy and active on college football saturdays. If he's given an offer he can't refuse, I think he'll take it. But I think the offer is key, his AD job right now is pretty sweet.

Yep. The players haven't been at those schools for a decade. Neither have the coaches.

Basically, I think ND just needs to win the game a lot more. Plus ND isn't "bad enough" to be a 2-2 team, and Michigan State really isn't a 4-0 team. They struggled against Idaho... they just aren't that good a team, IMO. None of my explanation may make any sense, but it's a gut feeling and I feel confident about it.

All the games that were marked TBA have been updated with times.

Apparently, there's a rumor going around per the Sun-Times that Charlie Weis said that "we will never lose again to Michigan State on my watch" at an alumni function this summer. John L. Smith has said he heard about it but Weis isn't talking.
