Scott Podsednik might be an interesting option next year. It's rumored he's not going to be back with the Sox next year. He's only thirty and is one of those "proven" leadoff hitters. On base of .341 would be acceptable. Here's his career line

Also Jenkins seems unhappy with the Brewers. His playing time is down and management seems unsure of his future with the club. He's on the downslide of his career but might be an interesting option depending on cost. He's 32 with a career line of

Any thoughts?

Jenkins' increasing age and health issues worry me, so I'd nix that one.

If you're unhappy with Pierre, I fail to see how Podsednik is much of an upgrade. His IsoD is a step up, but that SB/CS ratio is significantly worse and offsets any upgrade in OBP he'd have.

I don't see how Pods is an upgrade over Pierre, minues the OBP. They both are fast, they both have no power, and they both are average in the field. Jenkins is also a no. He's injury prone and we have enough injuries on this team. Granted, he's descent if he's not hurt, but that a significant IF. I'm also pretty sure that if he was on the team, it would decrease Murton's playing time. We're better off with Jock.

pods puts the ball in play, puts pressure on the defense, makes things happen, does the little things, and is a great clubhouse guy.

he's everything juan pierre was supposed to be! let's try the experiment again.

Juan Pierre has been doing that.

Exactly. We already knew he'd do nothing useful before we got him. Thank you for pointing out how even when he'd doing what's expected of him, he belongs nowhere near a major league squad. It's a very important point.

Except Pierre is having a far better year. The 2nd year with the Brewers he dropped and now the 2nd year in the AL he's dropping dramatically. Plus, he is a lousy defensive player. No thanks to Pods.

That means the Sox could replace Podsednik with Juan Pierre! Oh joy!

For some reason, I can see this happening. It seems like Williams and Guillen both realized they screwed up by adding more power and going away from speed this season (even though that's entirely false as their pitching has been their demise). I don't think Podsednik will be back with the Sox next year, but I would be very surprised if Kenny Williams does not go after Pierre. They seem to be pretty big on having a fast leadoff man.

He has. The second baseman is in play.

Jenkins is finished, fuhgedaboudit.

Pods is no upgrade to Pierre. I want 360 OBP minimum from my leadoff guy. Ryan Freel might be a good choice if we can swing a trade with the Reds.

i would rather see the cubs use theriot at 2nd base as he can be a freel/loretta type guy imo.

How about Brady Clark and Jenkins? Don't know what it would take but I bet the Brewers wouldn't mind clearing their salaries if they really like Hart and Gross. Jenkins/ Jones/ Murton could split time evenly among the corner OF spots, limiting Jones' and Jenkins' exposure to lefties without forcing them into a straight platoon. Clark could be an adequate CF/ leadoff until either Pie is ready or something better than Pierre comes along.

I'd rather go with Dave Roberts than Podsednik. As for Jenkins, he really looks like he's going downhill quick. I'd pass.

If the Cubs got Podsednik...would his wife be making appearences at Wrigley Field? Possibly in a bikini top?
