I mean really, this guy has been so bad. How can MacPhail look at the fans with a straight face and let this man be the GM next year? Time to eat the money and get somebody new in here. He's a terrible GM. Edited by YearofDaCubs

I wish - but I seriously doubt it will happen.

Just for fun, who would we like to see replace him if he were to go? There's been a lot of talk of manager replacements, but if Hendry were fired this offseason, who should replace him?

Anyone who can define OBP and explain its relative importance to the game of baseball is fine by me.

Extra credit to anyone who can discuss the disadvantage of 'selling low'

Hendry won't be fired.

Agreed. And I have no idea who could replace him. But I hear Dusty Baker may be desperate for a job this winter. Hey! Jim Hendry used to manage at the college level! I think we just killed two birds with one stone!

That would be a Cubslike move. Team can't hit, lets switch Sarge and Gene's positions to make it look like things are changing!

I still can't believe that.

It would be hilarious if MacPhail made Hendry manage this team next season with the stipulation that the team make the playoffs in order for him to keep his job.

Heck, the hilarity would be worthwhile just to see him in a Cubs uniform.

I have beef with the title of this thread. "too" means also. Which would imply someone has already been fired, or is going to be fired. Dusty is not going to be fired with only a handfull of games left in the season, and letting him go after this season is NOT firing him because his contrcact is up. just sayin.

Better? :)

Hendry's contract extension was only 2 years (through 2008), correct?

I wonder how much his search for a new manager will be affected by his own contract term.

I think it might effect any good manager that has options.

What new manager?

Harry Hendry still thinks RumDum's the man!

The contract extension is in the works!

Hendry won't be fired this year, but if they don't show major improvement next year they might eat the second year of his extension and fire him after next year. MacPhail should be fired for giving Hendry the extension in the first place. But the Cubs will probably fix things by doing something like firing the assistant ticket manager.

Chris Antonetti please. If he turns it down, Paul DePodesta. If he turns it down, Kim Ng. And not Kim Ng because of the sideshow. I think she'd bring a more business-like approach to it. By business I don't mean making money as I mean achieving efficiency - which is a core value of sabermetrics.

The Tribune owns this team and is notoriously conservative.

Hendry wouldn't fire Dusty. MacPhail won't fire Hendry. The Tribune won't fire MacPhail because MacPhail does his job -- he makes money, sells tickets and gets the butts in the seats at Wrigley. A lousy two weeks at the end of September doesn't mean much when the park was oversold all season long. They won't have to spend much money at all to rekindle hope in Cubdom, get those season ticketholders to renew (as if they wouldn't!), sell out the Cubs Convention, and sell a few more million tickets in February.

In all honesty, they will give him one more shot at it. If he screws up again this off season, he'll probably be gone, and I'm assuming he knows that. Does that mean he'll do better this off-season? Probably not.
