Ack! Where has the evening gone? Pie's staggering case forthcoming.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the word of the evening is age. Age relative to level is where it's at, and it's why Pie is the runaway choice for Minor League POY. Felix is playing this entire season at 21 years old. Donald Veal is a year younger and 2 levels below. Much less impressive. Gallagher reached AA at age 20, but he spent half the year at Daytona like Veal. Any disparity is gapped and more by this discrepancy in age relative to level. And remember, Felix dominated AA at that age as well, and has carried it forward where Gallagher and Veal have not. All others are out of the question. Jake Fox is 24 and just making it to AA, Pie will be making Major League All-Star games by then. Scott Moore is a year older and a level behind, get him outta here.

Like any good player/team making a run at an end of the season honor, Felix has turned it on during the home stretch. As his team battles for a postseason spot, Pie has caught fire, putting up an obscene .357/.400/.631/1.031 line in August. When the going gets tough, Pie gets going, sporting improved numbers once runners get on, once they get into scoring position, and with 2 outs. Clutch may not exist, but if it does Felix has it coming out of his ears. And let's face it, Pie is the jewel of the system. He flashes all 5 tools, he's been a winner, scouts love him, stat people like him, he's got charisma, he WANTS this award.

Vote for Felix. Best prospect in the system with the most impressive showing when you consider the word of the day, age, and the fact that he is at the highest level of MiLB while turning in amazing performances to help his team chase the playoffs down the stretch. Vote for the wrong candidate if you like, many of you already have, but deep down everyone has to admit to themselves that this guy deserves it.

VOTE FELIX(He has a great smile too!)

I knew somebody was going to make the age argument. I'm not saying it's not a good argument, because it is valid, but I knew somebody was going to do it.

What's not to love about Gallagher and Veal? Both have had simply tremendous years. In fact, their numbers show nearly a complete TIE.

I'd argue for co-minor league players this year between them.

...but ifyou have to pick one, tie goes to the younger player at the higher level....

Gallahger!

I posted for Gallagher in the original thread, so I voted for him here, too. All he does is win and succeed. I like Veal a lot too, but other than WHIP and a better K-rate, Gallagher is the better pitcher at this stage. Either or both could easily stall sooner rather than later, but IMO they are the top two prospects in the system based on performance, without regard to ceiling.

Add in ceiling, and Pawelek and Pie become tough to ignore.

I also happily give the bronze medal to Fox, what a great year. Good-hitting catchers are a valuable commodity, if he can just improve his defense some, he has a guaranteed big league future. And I can count on one finger the number of minor league catchers the Cubs have developed in the last twenty years (Berryhill).

So, Gold--Gallagher, Silver--Veal, Bronze--Fox.

I voted for Scott Moore. I feel the overall numbers he has put up are good by themselves, but his performance in the Southern League All-Star game and being named the best defensive 3b in the league also play into that a lot.

He's hitting for power (20 HR), decent average (.275 ish) and taking walks at a decent rate (.350 OBP...more than 1 walk/10 ABs). He's also got 12 SB. If he develops a little bit of consistancy, he's going to become an amazing player.

I'm disappointed at the lack of Mitch Atkins love. Compare his numbers to Gallagher's. Granted, Sean has 2 months in age and 2 levels over Atkins, but it's not the best prospect having the best season award. Atkins numbers are comparable across the board. Not saying that he should be winning or anything, but if Sean has 7 votes, Atkins should at least have a handful.

I agree. Atkins is having too good a season to have 0 votes.

Just wanted to say even though I voted for Sean wanted to show some love for Jake Fox. He and Sean have gotten pretty close this year and just wanted to say he would've had my 2nd vote. I just wanted to say thanks!!, to Jake his Wife and his Family for letting Sean spend the SL All-Star break with them. TXS.. :)

I'd argue that those are the 2 most important stats to look at when evaluating a prospect

Is Berryhill even from the Cubs system? And yeah, he wasn't very good. Wilkins had one of the best years from a catcher ever. Girardi had a long career, at least.

I voted for Sean Gallagher because he's still doing really good and I saw him play alot last year. I'm happy for him.

I wish I could vote for Eric Patterson!!!!!!!!!!!

He won the award last year, so it's probably good to spread the wealth anyway.

Thank-you. Another vote for my favorite, the underdog, Scott Moore.

I can't remember if it's been mentioned or not, but we have a sweet award to present to the winner this year.

Do I get to take credit for the idea? O:)

Looks like Gallagher and Veal are tied.

Depends on what Tim says.

Gallagher and Veal have really had EQUAL years. It really is a tie between them.

I think Gallagher deserves the award then for two reasons:

(1.) Younger at a higher level

(2.) He arguably deserved the award last year too (Ya know how the Oscars often give the award to someone who deserved the year before?)

What about Mitch Atkins?

Well that's one convert to the Pie camp. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.

Is NSBB saying they'd rather have Veal or Gallagher? Considering age, production, position and tools Pie is the clear winner.

It's more of a reward for the best season than a best prospect evaluation.
