Two is the maximum allowable; that would have been pretty extreme. Biting is vile (and just so creepy) but we can all think of things that would deserve much harsher punishments.

The first time, sure. But after multiple versions of the same thing?

Yes. I don't think even three biting incidents are the worst of the worst possible offenses.

What? Sure, I guess a player could deliberately choke an opponent to death. But the fact that 2 years is the maximum does not mean that you can only use that maximum on the one "truly worst possible offense" and then have to go lower from there.

This is a mistake. Omar loses his mark badly at least twice a game. He's immobile. He's been a disasater for the last 3 months for the NT and is coming off a knee injury.

Davis isn't remotely good enough for this level. No need to elaborate. He's a good pro for Houston, but he's firmly below the Ralston Line.

This gives me absolutely zero confidence.

By my lights, it does. The worst possible punishments should be reserved for the worst possible offenses. Proportionality matters.

And a player could always go Ron Artes--or, ya know, Eric Cantona--which would deserve a much more stringent penalty.

Perhaps because the conditions are expected to be poor, they think lack of speed won't be as much of a concern?

Ugh, Cameron had some costly blunders against Portugal but surely he's still a better option than Gonzalez.

This is an amazingly ridiculous line of reasoning. By this measure, they could never use the "maximum penalty" because there is always the chance that the next guy will do something worse. Proportionality matters, but once you are a three time offender of a fairly obvious infraction that can be easily avoided and has no place in the action of the game, you can't be protected against further punishment simply because somebody thinks that one day some other dude might actually follow through on the bite and rip off an ear or something. That's absurd.

Maybe they are the guys who remembered their long cleats.

Omar & Davis are head scratchers. It does give CDM cover with Cam on the bench. Clearly the attack is coming through the right flank and Davis is there to defend and deliver set pieces but his speed is a liability on the bigger half of that equation.

Obviously regardless of formation/selection, that German lineup would dwarf it on paper.

Dempsey is obviously our golden boy, but how good is he internationally? Is he top 20? Top 30?

Bradley is probably the best player on the team, and he's borderline top 50 internationally. Keep in mind there are a lot of teams and a lot of players on each team.

We lose 1-0. Ghana and Portugal tie.

BTW am I right for cheering for Portugal here (at least for 1 goal)? I want to be farther away from a Ghana win. If Portugal gets up multiple goals or the US down then I'be concerned about Portugal advancing.
