Nomar is not coming back to Chicago, he is not a 3rd baseman!

Hell, he's not a 1st baseman either, but that didn't stop the Dodgers. I wouldn't rule it out. Hendry does love the guy...

And didn't Nomar say a lot of nice things about Hendry? You'd think this "I'm a nice GM" would work in the Cubs favor a few times since many leaving players have nothing but good things to say about Mr. Hendry.

Not to hijack this to Sammy, but if anyone thinks Sosa wasn't carrying the team to the playoffs in '98 they weren't watching.

Seriously. Bashing Sosa is just as moronic.

And in 2001.

Anybody that says Sosa "spent many a year wearing out a patch of grass in right field" gets absolutely no respect or credibility from me. And from some of the other posts in this thread, I'm not the only one who feels this way. Say what you want about the corked bat, steroids (theoretically), and leaving early but Sammy WAS the Cubs for years.

I couldn't agree with you more. He was the only, and I mean only, reason to watch this team for quite a while. I think people tend to forget how fun it was to watch him play in his prime. It's a shame people still have negative feelings for him.

Rumors:

Though there was apparently a verbal agreement, as Will Carroll reported, between Aramis Ramirez and the Cubs on a new contract, the deal was never signed and it now appears that Ramirez is going to test the free agent waters. The verbal agreement apparently was made before Ramirez had his hot-hitting September.

One of the Cubs' top free-agent targets is going to be Gary Matthews, Jr. -- and he might be signed to play right field, if Juan Pierre is retained for CF, with Jacque Jones either platooning with Matt Murton in LF, or Jones moving full-time to LF and Murton placed on the trading block.

Is it me or is Hendry getting dumber and dumber with every passing day?

There is NO move Hendry can make that will make up for losing Aram and I just don't see him being that dumb. Also, trading Murton is ridiculous.

Not only that but the chances of Sarge Jr repeating this years number are slim at best....

Why are you using some random speculation by a person not connected to the Cubs to attack Hendry? Did Hendry say GMJR is a target? Did Hendry say Murton is on the trading block? Let's citicize Hendry on his actions or his statements and not on someone's speculation as to what might happen in the offseason.

We can do that all day long without the above posted rumor. It's not hard to pile on Hendry or MacPhail for that matter. And quite frankly they deserve it.

It IS just a blog. But just the idea that Hendry could field a Jones/Pierre/Matthews outfield is enough to make one want to bash one's head against the wall repeatedly.

How reliable has his "reports" been in the past?

It actually is a pretty good site. I visit it daily. He doesn't too much of the rumor thing. But again it's just a rumor, although dones't seem like a far fetched one.

That is the scariest thing i've ever heard. I really wonder how realiable this guy is as a source. I can't see any team trading a 25 year old with an OPS of 810 in his first major league season and replace him with Gary Matthews who even in his career year only has an OPS of 868. If you put Matthews in CF for two years I can handle that but definitely not if you are trading Murton.

Actually, it does seem farfetched, IMHO. Murton is great value for the cost, and the Cubs seem enthusiastic about Pie, whom I think will be ready for Wrigley by June 2007.

All I said was ugh.

I don't think Murton's season has gone unnoticed by Hendry. I think the only way Murton gets traded is if it's for Cabrera and I don't think there's a big chance of the Cubs getting Cabrera.

I don't know how much faith I'd put into a web blog, but I'm definitely getting nervous about the whole situation. There are quite a few teams that would line up to get a chance to sign Aram, and I'm really worried he's going to test the FA waters. Edited by E.J.

It's a good site for following Wrigley happenings. His recent transaction rumors haven't panned out. This season it's been 1) a trade for A-Rod, 2) TWalker to the Giants was 'imminent' (the Hillenbrand debacle supposedly kiboshed that at the last moment), and 3) Maddux would not be traded at the deadline. Not sure if I've missed any.
