Hendry simply MUST find a way to keep Ramirez, period. Losing him and getting nothing but draft picks who may never pan out in unacceptable. If he leaves, bye bye Hendry.

And bye bye 2007, 2008...We bascially would be left with DLEE as your lone power hitter. Scary thought indeed. Ram has got Hendry and the Cubs by their stones!

Hey, Hendry is the one who grabbed his hand and guided it into position. Don't give any more opt out clauses, Jimbo.

Since it now sounds like draft pick compensation is a thing of the past, re-signing Ramirez if he opts out is absolutely mandatory, no excuses, zero tolerance. Hendry simply cannot allow a player that good to walk away and get absolutely nada. His job status even for next year must be contingent on him keeping Ramirez.

Hmm, I heard the same thing lawl posted -- that it was actually far from a done deal. You scared the bejeezus outta me with your post.

Sigh. We do realize that if the above happens we will resign Pierre. No way Hendry takes the slap in the face of letting him walk with nothing back, after what we gave for him.

New info on Ram:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/jon_heyman/08/30/girardi.scoop/1.html

Aramis Ramirez is telling friends that he plans to exercise an option to opt out of his contract with the Cubs, which would allow him to join Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Lee as the top positional free agents this winter.

The headline over that blurb is "Doomed from the Start? (cont.)"

It's meant to refer to the Girardi situation, but it can also be applied to the '07 Cubs at this point.

"Aramis Ramirez is telling friends that he plans to exercise an option to opt out of his contract with the Cubs. Ramirez...is also telling people he'd love to go to New York. The Astros, Rangers, Angels, Dodgers, Red Sox and Tigers could be among favored players for Ramirez. But, of course, the Cubs won't let him leave easily."

So basically he'll go anywhere that pays him money. I have a feeling he's going to the Red Sox or dodgers...

I am betting on Boston. You put him in that lineup and its a modern day Murderers Row:

Ortiz-Manny-ARam

Now thats what I call Lethal Latinos.

He's really a perfect fit for that team. He'll put up career numbers in that ballpark surrounded by that lineup. Mercy!

What kind of contract do you think ARam will get? What's the max you'd offer him?

Since the inferior Carlos Lee turned down 4\48 you have to think ARam will command atleast 5\75.

5\65

I'd give him 4/$60 with an option year at $14m.

I'm hoping some of the GMs get goofy and don't offer him that much based on hustle and defense.

If Furcal got 13 million anything is possible, espically when teams with money are involoved. He'll get 5\65 easy....

Agreed, assuming its a team option. I get the feeling (a gut feeling, admittedly) that Aramis' relative lack of conditioning will eventually catch up with him.

We're so screwed. Hello Rich Aurillia.

The only only hope that this team has in the next two years is an infusion of young, talented position players. I hate to harp on the past but Renyel Pinto or Nolasco sure would have helped to pry someone from the Devil Rays, Angels or Dodgers.

I too think Aramis will be playing somewhere else next year. However, I still think a competent guy like Mike Lowell will be manning 3B in 2007. While the offseason prospects may seem bleak right now, I still expect Hendry to be aggressive and field a good team able to make the post-season. I still feel there will be a lot of trades this winter and expect Hendry to use the Tribune money as an advantage in this endeavor. I am not expecting much out of Hendry in free agency - except for him to take a serious look at Jason Schmidt.

I'd be fine with Schmidt and I could live with Lowell. Does that mean ARam will be in Boston? He can't go to NY. Maybe Anaheim?

I guess if Dusty's gone, it lowers the chances that I will have anything to Dick Aurillia.

Will Carroll lastest about Aram:

posting.php?mode=reply&t=34229

Aunt Jemima (Atlanta): If Aramis Ramirez leaves the Cubs as a free agent, any chance the Cubs would be smart enough to pick up Edwin Encarnacion, a player that the Reds seem to unappreciate? Which guy would they be better off with?

Will Carroll: I don't think Ramirez will leave. In fact, I think the deal's essentially done to keep him.

Encarnacion? Sure, Krivsky traded Lopez and Kearns but that doesn't mean that every GM can pillage his roster, does it?

Let's hope Carroll is right. Losing Aramis would pretty much mean the team would have to be blown up and Hendry would have to start all over again (not that he doesn't pretty much have to do that now).
