How about Bellhorn sending Sammy's career into the toilet?

That was a good attempt, but I think it took the only shattered batting helmet I can recall in recent history to really start the downward spiral.

Yah, Sammy was never the same after Saloman Tores (SP???) gave him that shot to the head....

I hate that man...

Yep, Sammy was actually hitting in the .330's in 2003, I think, When Tores decided that Sammy's helmet would look better in 30 pieces.

1. Salomon Torres

2. It was April when Sammy went down so his .330 could be deceiving. Not enough AB's yet.

3. Yes Torres is a bum. I blame him for the downfall of Sosa.

I say we let Gene Clines get a free swing at Jose Contreras.

Why, so Cora can enjoy the breeze as he repeatedly swings and misses?

You beat me to that one. I was thinking the exact same thing.

This has to be a joke. A cosmic joke.

I really don't want to believe in curses...I REALLY, REALLY don't...but at the same time, the Cubs have had more fluke ass injuries in the last five years than many teams have had in the last thirty or more. It just defies description the things that happen to this team.

Scot Gregor/Daily Herald"]NL pitcher Carlos Zambrano, the Cubs’ lone all-star representative, was doing an interview near Cora and was struck, apparently above the right elbow, by the backswing of Cora’s fungo bat.

Scheduled to work 1 or 2 innings in the game, Zambrano was unable to pitch.

According to a member of the host Pittsburgh Pirates’ medical staff, Zambrano suffered an “elbow tendon contusion.’’ Cora was a member of AL manager Ozzie Guillen’s coaching staff.

Cora acknowledged the accident, but Zambrano was unavailable for comment. X-rays on the injury came back negative, according to the Pirates’ medical staff, and the Cubs were apprised of the situation. ....

Zambrano, 3-0 with a 1.96 ERA in June, is scheduled to start Saturday against the New York Mets at Wrigley Field. Depending on the severity of the injury, he might not be able to take the mound.

DeLuca/The Sun-Times"]A freak accident involving White Sox third base coach Joey Cora and Cubs All-Star Carlos Zambrano could send the right-hander to the disabled list for the first time since 2002. ...

X-rays were negative, and Cubs trainer Mark O'Neal was alerted by medical officials at the game. Zambrano is expected to undergo further tests today in Chicago.

Though he was slated to pitch two innings, Zambrano was knocked out of the game after being struck accidentally by a fungo bat swung by Cora during batting practice. Cora and the rest of the Sox coaching staff left PNC Park immediately after the game.

Through a Sox spokesperson, Cora said he was hitting fungos near the batting cage when Zambrano approached to do interviews with Venezuelan reporters.

Cora said he struck Zambrano's pitching arm on one of his backswings. ...

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, who guided the AL stars, said he was unaware of the incident.

''The way Joey swings the bat, he couldn't have hurt anyone,'' Guillen said. ...

Zambrano would have been in line to start Friday, but that now seems highly unlikely.

Let's just wait and see what happens. Z is a pretty tough kid and sometimes these things look worse than they are. I don't believe in curses and I never will and this is something that should have never happened. My 10/11 girl softball players know not to be near a guy swinging a bat Z should have known too. Now, if Z was already standing there doing the interview and Cora walked up and swung....that is a completely different matter.

According to Muskat, he was doing an interview and backed up into Cora's swing. I'm sure Cora will get all kinds of flack about this, but it sounds like it was probably Z just not being aware of his surroundings.

Joey Cora is a thug. First Jacques ankle  and now clubbing people with bats.

What did he do to Jones' ankle??

It has been refuted. But, it was said in the fight between the Cubs and Sox that Cora was under the pile biting Jones' ankle. Dempster said it to mike North, but I believe even Jones said it was false. How that started I have no idea?

I have to address this. I heard the interview after the fact. Dempster did not tell North that Cora bit Jones. He talked about Cora, and said something about a story that Cora had once bit somebody in an onfield brawl before. He did not say Cora bit Jones.

Look on the bright side, maybe Dusty will be forced to take it easier on Zambrano for a while.

Activities Zambrano needs to be prohibited from:

1. Spending too much time on the Internet.

2. Giving on-field interviews during pre-game practice.

The tragedy about this is that many of us have just been waiting for Zambrano to get injured, and when it finally happens we can't even reasonably blame Dusty for it. :x
