I was reading an article on Walker's induction to the LSU HOF when I cam across this tidbit.

Walker said he expects to be traded, hopefully to a contender, before the July 31 trading deadline.

There wasn't a direct quote in the article, so I have no idea what his exact words were. This isn't a surprise, but I thought it was newsworthy.

There will probably be several ex-Cubs to root for as the pennant races start gearing up. Right now I'm actually rooting for the Dodgers to win the west just for Nomar's sake (Lofton and Mueller too). Of course, if Maddog is shipped to SD I'll have a dilemma ... Edited by FergieJ31

I'll be surprised if Walker doesn't get traded. Same goes for Maddux.

I'll be suprised if either are traded, I don't think Hendry is going to do a thing this year....just torture us with the current team.

We could feasably trade him and then re-sign him in the offseason since he's a FA. Didn't Pittsburgh do that with Mike Williams a few years back. I think they traded him somewhere in his walk year and then re-signed him.

Yeah. Baltimore did the same with Fat Boy Ponson once.

there are no indications management values him enough to do so.

Randall Simon.

I can't til Opening Day 2007. At second base, leading off... Neifi Perez!

I'm hoping it's former Northwestern Wildcat, Mr. Mark Loretta.

I agree. I count Walker as pretty much gone. But, just because he'd look nice here in 2007 is no reason not to trade him. That was the point I was trying to make. When a team is 20 games under .500, any and all players not under contract for the next season should be up for trade. A team can always bid for their services again in the fall.

I am hoping to see a middle infield of either Loretta-Cedeno or Cedeno-Lugo.

Loretta a FA? I'm on board there.

Not really a fan of Loretta, and I hope the Cubs stay away from adding any big name 2nd basemens, like Giles/Loretta. I want 2nd base open for Eric Patterson.

I hope he does go to a contender. I hope down the stretch, he absolutely torches us. Then I hope he gets a WS ring and publicly blasts the Cubs brass.

If Hendry did this right Todd coulda been a contenda.

I say trade Walker and extend Baker for another 3 years. This would make everything just right.

While Patterson may be a decent major league second baseman, I don't think he's the level of prospect that you keep a spot open for. He's not going to be ready for the show in 2007 and we'll need someone to play second unless we want to endure 500 AB of Neifi. I don't. If I can get Marcus Giles to play second, Patterson can ply his trade elsewhere.

I've always loved Marcus Giles....until he messed up Prior...but I would get over that.

That would be great, Hoops! :D Is Mark Loretta a FA after this year?
