I finally have season tickets to the Irish that I can use every game (don't have to share with other family members) so I am very excited about that. Also going to be in Baltimore during the Navy game so I may try to make that as well.

I really can't remember the last time I have been this excited about ND. However, I know they will find some way to lose a few games; but hopefully they can make it to another BCS game. Georgia Tech has me a little nervous as does PSU and Michigan. I think this may be the year ND finally beats USC. Also hope the they kill MSU. A little revenge for the flag planting.

Besides Quinn and Peterson, who else has a shot at the Heisman? Can't think of anyone off hand. Perhaps the WR from GT?

My only ND game this year will be Stanford...

Troy Smith, Chris Leak, Brian Brohm, Ginn, Michael Bush, Steve Slaton, Sam Keller and Pat White round out Fox Sports's top 10 Heisman candidates after Quinn and Peterson, but at least at the start of the season it looks to me like a two-horse race between the latter two unless Smith keeps up the form he exhibited at the Fiesta (not entirely likely because it won't get much easier than ND's 2005 secondary).

I would even go so far as to consider Quinn the favorite solely because he's a quarterback. If both players put up great numbers, a quarterback is usually going to have the advantage over a running back.

A QB's Heisman chances are wrapped up in the record of the team. With a team like ND if he loses more than one game I don't think Quinn wins it.

Cubweiser I dont think you should be so hard on Michigan. I really think that last year should have been a serious wake up call to this team. They most certainly have top ten talent. They should beat everyone on their schedule with the exception on ND and OSU. As much as it pains me to say this I can see them winning one of those 2 games and going 11-1. Am I mistaken by saying that their road Big Ten games are OSU, PSU, Indiana and MInnesota. With a improved Chad Henne and a healthy Micheal Hart and a growing Manningham to go along with an always solid offensive line and Steve Breaston, Michigan can be pretty good. They also can underachieve and go 7-5 like last year.

After MSU beats ND this year they will be lucky to go .500 the rest of they year and not make a bowl game. Oh wait a minute that is what they have done the last 5 yrs. GO SPARTANS

If Quinn puts up amazing numbers and the defense clearly causes ND to lose a game or two (but not more than 2), I think he wins the Heisman. This is Notre Dame not a middle of the road school. The same would go for any major football school. You also have to factor in that Quinn is a senior as well. If Quinn puts up the numbers and ND finishes 10-2 or better, he wins the Heisman.

He's very good but he'd have to have an absolutely HUGE game in the first four or five to get his name on the map because I don't think many people know a lot about him.

Is he really less well known than someone like Sam Keller? He definitely deserves to be amongst the other names Fox Sports mentions.

And to think that there are those of us who don't even want Keller to start.

Not that any of you probably care, but ASU returns 9 starters on the nation's #1 offense featuring two all-american candidate QB's, Rudy Carpenter and Sam Keller.

I really like Mizzou's chances in the North this year. I think at worst we should go 3-1 in non-conference, if not 4-0, and lose to OU, either Tech/A&M, and maybe Nebraska. Big question is gonna be the secondary I think, but we'll see. All I want is another Bowl game.

Agreed. Depending on how the offense comes together with a different focal point, and how well the secondary plays, I could see them being within a game or so of last year in either direction, with a chance for a miracle season. 7 home games this year is gonna be awesome.

Hey TT, Stewart Mandel is really down on Pinkel. I can't say that I follow Mizzou football, but you might find his take interesting.

You can see how he rates the 10 Best/5 Worst college football coaches here-

He should be down on Pinkel. Pinkel is such an underachieving coach. If he doesn't win a bowl game this year, he'll more than likely be gone. But hey, anything can happen this year. I can't wait seeing Chase-to-Chase many many times this season. Man I love college football.

So what's new? Michigan has top ten talent almost every year. Under Lloyd Carr they usually find a way to lose a close game or two and underachieve most years. So I don't know that they "should" beat everyone but ND and OSU. At Penn State and home games with Iowa and MSU will be tough also.

What suggests that Chad Henne will be improved? He was worse last year than he was his freshman year and needs to prove that Braylon didn't make him.

Which only takes about 7 wins for ND, right?

I can live with what you said except for the Henne comment. He had nearly identical numbers last year than as a true freshman with Braylon. He didnt get much better but he most defintly didnt regress.

The Oline will be improved and with a healthy Hart and another year under the belt of Grady and Manningham the offense will be more consistant. Henne is not the question mark. Its the defense and how they adapt to a new coach and newer style of play.

Someone said something about John L Smith. Yes he has to have a good year or he will be fired. He hasnt done anything since coming to east lansing.

Sadly, I fear with the sudden, untimely death of Randy Walker, Northwestern will proceed directly into the toilet.

Illinois will suck as usual.

Wisconsin will likely suffer a fall with the change in coaches.

Could be an opening for Iowa in the Big 10 race.

Which is a hell of a lot harder to get than the ACC's automatic berth.

John L Smith has not been able to get any discipline in Michigan St. They will probably start out hot again and than faulter and he will be fired and we will be on our 3rd coach since Sabin. I am not trying to start a nasty feud with the ND fans but it wouldnt surprise me if MSU beat ND again, than lose to Mich two weeks later and be lucky to go 7-5.

About Mich and Carr. At least Carr has finally realized that Herrmann is a lousy Def coordinator. Well I dont know if Carr figured it out or he was forced to figure it out. This is unlike Dusty who still has all of his lousy coaches from last yrs disaster

I wish it were still that way. Instead they have to have a good record now. I guess its one of the disadvantages of not being in a conference.

I would not be suprised either. They always play ND well, and ND has always found a way to let me down (much like the Cubs). However as Lou Holtz once said (and I paraphrase) when MSU stuck a flag in the ground against ND while he was there "the next time will be a flag saying we surrender." ND then beat MSU 8 straight times.

I wouldn't say that. Last year he won the game against Penn State with the way he worked the referees.
