Nice quote here from Keith Law of Scouts Inc.

How, exactly, does the major league ERA leader by more than half a run not make the All-Star team? While, in most cases, I support taking the player with the track record over a couple of seasons instead of the player having the good half-year, Liriano is the leading contender for Rookie of the Year and is starting to nudge his way into the Cy Young picture as well. Maybe he'll stumble over the course of the summer and won't end up the league's ERA champ, but he has the stuff and the minor league performances that say that the last three months are no fluke.

And I'm not advocating taking Liriano instead of a proven All-Star. The guy who's sitting clearly in Liriano's spot is Jenks, the White Sox's closer, a hard-throwing and mediocre-performing pitcher in the minors who has thrown fewer innings (76 2/3) in his major league career than Liriano has this season -- and whose 2006 ERA is higher than Liriano's, despite the fact that Jenks is a full-time reliever. With Jenks and Mark Buehrle (now sporting a pedestrian 3.86 ERA) both on the roster due to questionable selections made by the manager, I'd accuse Ozzie Guillen of nepotism, but the last thing MLB needs now is for someone to provoke its resident jerk.

Buehrle's ERA was 3.22 before yesterday. Guillen finalized the roster on Friday.

So Ozzie basically only puts one extra Tiger on the team while putting his entire 25 man roster on. What a douche. Now I actually hope that Detroit wins the WS so Leyland can bring just one White Sox player onto the ASG next year.

Guillen only selected Jenks and Buehrle.

He selected Konerko as well. And he said Crede and Iguchi are 1st in line for injury replacements.

The players voted on backup position players and were responsible for Konerko over Hafner.

it sucks that the fans have to choose between the second best pitcher in the majors over the first half of the season and the best hitter in the AL

Nope:

Sox right fielder Jermaine Dye, designated hitter Jim Thome and pitcher Jose Contreras were selected through the players' vote. First baseman Paul Konerko, pitcher Mark Buehrle and closer Bobby Jenks were selected by Guillen. Jenks and Contreras are first-timers to the game.

It didn't take long for Ozzie Guillen's phone to ring Sunday.

Then again, the White Sox manager knew it was only the first wave of a potential weeklong tsunami.

"I already had a couple of phone calls, not nice ones,'' Guillen said. "A couple of teams called, but I could care less what they think.

"Whoever is not on this team, they have my number. They have my PR department's number. Whoever doesn't like it, play better next year.''

I would love to know who called and what they said.

Wow, that doesn't sound like Ozzie at all.

Ozzie doesn't realize that he's screwing his guys in the future. Teams always take their guys, but Ozzie has made a point to flaunt it.

When a manager of one of the snubs is in his position, they are likely to take retribution by choosing other players over Ozzie's.

Well, one team that has to be extremely upset is the Tigers. Some reason I think they might have been one of the phone calls.

This did not stop Torre and Francona taking several Yankees and Red Sox when they were the managers of the AL.

But Torre and Francona didn't flaunt the fact that they did and could do so. Sometimes it isn't so much what you do, but the perception you give in doing so.

I'd be happy if I was the Tigers. Their players get a nice three day rest. Makes contract negotiations a bit easier on the pocketbook to re-up their young guns, while irony will hopefully strike Ozzie in the head with a season ending injury to someone.

Karma. Sweet karma, please deliver thee ozzie.

yesyesyes

I don't know why more people don't realize this, but it's actually a good thing when your favorite players get screwed over for awards and this sort of thing. Bobby Jenks making an all-star team is only going to make him more expensive when it comes time to re-sign him. My guys will take the performance, and your guys can have the accolades.

Yeah, but they did not repeatedly make it a point in the media that they would take as many of their guys as they could after reping every team. I hope out of spite that the White Sox don't make the World Series this year, and next years manager only picks a White Sox if they need a rep.

I can't believe you wouldn't take a bet on something you felt so strongly on. I expected your White Sox hate to get the best of you.

Mauer was voted by the players. I said that if he wasn't and the Twins had a rep, Ozzie would not take him.

So, your claim has absolutely no validity whatsoever. There's no reason to think Mauer would not have been taken. What's next in your list of ridiculous claims against the Sox? I'm guessing...

1. Ozzie will pitch Papelbon all nine innings.

2. Kenny Williams is a cannibal and ate Joe Mauer in order to prevent his playing in the ASG.

3. TIGERS R AMA ZING

4. Ozzie is a cyborg.

To be fair, there was a direct quote from Guillen that he would take all his players after fulfilling the 1 player from each team need. I don't think it's absurd to think he'd pass over Mauer for another one of his players.

That's excatly where my rational came from.

But there's a difference between showing preference to one of your own players over a player having a similar season, and leaving out a player hitting .392 because of a "personal vendetta with Gardenhire". Selig had a meeting with Guillen and I'm sure he made a point of letting him know he better put Mauer in the game.

How many players did Ozzie Guillen select? How many were White Sox?

He had 7 picks. 4 of them, he had to use to rep every team. After that, he had 3 picks for whoever, and he took his guys.
