Hahaha. Figures.

He must have hurt himself running to the buffet table because lord knows he wasn't on the field long enough yesterday to hurt it there.

This is exactly why Hendry is not a good GM. Cut your losses already. DFA the fat bastard.

From the Cubs:

The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Mark Prior from the 60-day disabled list and placed left-handed pitcher Glendon Rusch on the 15-day disabled list with lower back spasms, retroactive to June 17.

Prior, 25, began the season on the disabled list with a right subscapularis strain. He posted a 2.89 ERA (6 ER/18.2 IP) in four rehabilitation starts. Most recently, Prior struck out 10 in 6.2 innings of work June 13 at New Orleans with Triple-A Iowa.

Owner of a 41-23 record and a 3.24 ERA (221 ER/613.1 IP) in 97 Major League starts, Prior will start today against the Detroit Tigers at Wrigley Field.

Rusch, 31, is 2-7 with a 7.80 ERA (41 ER/47.1 IP) in 15 games (eight starts) this season.

Great, this means that in a coupl of weeks when they bring him off the DL he gets another couple of starts to prove that he sucks. And with our luck they will be against the pirates and another bad team and he does okay and somehow gets more starts.

Anyone believe he's actually injured bad enough for the DL? Anyone believe he's actually injured at all?

Is there a rule against placing a player on the DL who isn't hurt? Don't know how anyone could prove they are not hurt, but just wondering.

Maybe that extra 75 pounds did something to his back? I hope they hook him up with a manzere when he comes off the DL.

I knew there was a reason he has sucked so badly this season!

Lord help this team. :( How will we get by without Glendon for 15 days?

Pray for a lot of rainouts and off days.

No and no. I suspect this is a phantom injury designed to allow the Cubs to send Rusch to the minor leagues on a rehabilitation assignment rather than exposing him to waivers to send him down. It's not that uncommon to make such a move with a struggling player.

I do believe there is a rule against putting a player on the DL who isn't hurt, and there's no way to disprove a back injury.

You Teamsters sure know that rule!

The teamsters contract, to this very day, contains a clause that requires a driver to be at work 15 minutes prior to his listed starting time. This was put into effect to allow for feeding the horses. Real boy scouts them teamsters, no?

If they actually thought he'd be claimed, lol, this is probably the best move by the Tribune we could hope for. Rusch gets shut down, hopefully on a hardcore exercise regime, put him in the minors and see if enough treadmill time gets him anything extra.

I'm a retired teamster myself and I know of which you speak.

Here's what Kerry Wood said after going to the DL on June 9:

I'm not injured, I didn't hurt anything. I think it's something that comes along with shoulder surgery. I've had a tough time recovering and getting this thing ready to go every fifth, sixth or seventh day sometimes. We'll take the time to get it right now and get back before the All-Star break and finish the season healthy."

I don't know if it's against the rules (you'd sure think so), but nothing came of this "phantom injury" DL stint, so I'm sure nothing will come of Glendon's either.

Hey, this gives Hendry some roster space and buys some time. Perhaps someone offered a Single A player for Rusch and Hendry is trying to beat that. I'll take literally anything for Rusch at this point.

AP: Glendon Rusch placed on the 15 Day DL with complications from being a lard

And 29 major league managers breathe a sigh of relief that Rusch was not DFA'd for fear that their GM would be as stupid as Hendry to take a chance on Rusch.

Why do I see some sort of quote like this coming "Its hard to compete with all the injuries we have had, what team could possibly compete with Wood, Prior, Lee and Rusch out, thats 3/5ths of the rotation!!"

Glendon Rusch was placed on the "DL" after "suffering" "back spasms." He is expected to "miss" several "games" while "doctors" attempt to expedite the "healing" of his troublesome back.

Translation: Can't DFA due to ridiculous contract, can't stand to see face due to ridiculous incompetence.
