I'm fine with this. It's his first home run. I'd be excited too.

Now, the next time, if he steps on home and then runs to the fans near the dugout and jumps into their arms ala some soccer players in Europe, then we can fine him and stuff. But I have no problem with what he did. Good for him.

If it's such a big deal, the Giants should give him some chin music today, and the Mets shouldn't retaliate. Keep it between the players, not the media.

This happened over the weekend. The series is over and NY is in LA now.

The only reaction I've heard has been from the Mets themselves.

Something out of the ordinary happened!!! URGE TO FREAKOUT RISING!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen lots of references to this story and the people who are freaking out are the "baseball people", largely associated with the Mets, who reprimanded him. Every media report I've heard or read has basically says it's no big deal.

I'm just saying that I've read a lot of articles and seen many pieces on this non-story.

I think the issue would be if he had shown up the opposing team. However, I don't feel that was the case here. It wasn't like he made any gestures toward SF, he was just excited. Floyd talking about the "rammifications"? Gimme a break.

I hope this causes contraversy in the clubhouse and the mets become willing to trade Milledge for a Maddux or a Wood.... :D

....ok it's not gonna happen... :?

Agreed. It's the ESPN generation of sports. Group-think has become the law. Hypocrisy goes unnoticed by most.

Except there is a difference between sports.

In baseball unlike football, they throw an object 90+ MPH at you. There has to be a level of trust between the pitcher and batter. This kind of behavior does not engender itself towards fostering that relationship.

The media just didnt spell it out like that.

Sure they can hit you in football, but it wont kill you (paralyze maybe). Baseball is a whole different can of worms. Many many people have died playing over the years.

In all fairness, there is a level of trust that has to exist between football players out there. Offensive players trust the defensive guys not to lead with their helmet, make late hits, or do anything else that could potentially injure or cripple them. Defensive players have the same level of trust for the guys blocking them.

And yes, many people have died playing football over the years. A hard enough blow to the head can do serious damage to a person, ya know?

Except the media all seem to be saying it's no big deal, while the "baseball people" are the ones who are talking bad about it.

I'd much rather have a pitcher throw at me than have a lienbacker come after me.

Who are the many, many people that have died over the years? I thought there was only one guy killed as a result of something that happened during the game.

The only on-the-field baseball player fatality was when Carl Mays hit Ray Chapman in the head with a spitball in 1920.

That's the only one I know of.

I don't have a problem with what Milliedge did at all. Like somebody else said, if he continues to do it, then it will become a problem.
