Wow!!! WHAT A PERFORMANCE!

Zambrano: 8IP, 0 ER, 1 hit, 8 Ks.

Along with a 3-run home run crushed to right-center...

and a sac fly driving in a run.

Discuss.

Could this be just one of those games where all we'll here on talk shows is "This is the game that will boost the Cubs onto consistent winning... And if it doesnt, what will?"

And really, what will? I dont mean to be a pessimist... But I dont want to see the offense hiding tomorrow after an 8-0 game today.

That's what I'm going to be looking for as well. No let downs please.

No, this is the game that will be buried on Sportscenter behind the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Michell Wie, Red Sox/Yankees and Barry Bonds

Except for the fact that it already led Baseball Tonight.

Close. Buried behind the Stanley Cup Finals and Wie.

To get the thread back on topic, excellent game for Z both on the mound and with the bat.

Jacque continues to hit the ball well with another HR.

Tony Womack was the only starter without a hit.

5 players with 2 hits.

Let's hope the Cubs continue to play well and pick on Houston when they are on a losing streak.

well good thing that Z got all the attention that he was probably going to get because now his outing goes against not only stanley cup, Wie, Sox/Yanks, NOW Bonds has hit a home run.

....wait, did he??? I read it on another board, but I don't see it in the box online.

He did. The Giants announcers are talking about it and it shows up on MLB.com scoreboard.

I'm actually not worried for once about the Cubs having used up their runs for the week in a single game. The offense has exploded in the last 7 games...roll on, boys! Prior and Lee are just around the corner and the NL Central is in shambles!

Coudln't watch the game here, although I did manage to see Houston's only hit as ESPN had switched to the game. Talk about timing.

Maybe more encouraging than the no-hitter was Z's control. 2 BBs in 8 innings is a major coup for him with all the command issues he's had so far. If he can keep the walks down he'll absolutley dominate. Then that's always been the key with him.

Being as I couldn't see the game can somebody comment on Z's homer?? I saw in Foxsports boxscore rundown it said it was to center, so I assume it was no cheapie.

He also had 4 RBIs too. That might put him past Pierre for the season.

If the offense scores four runs tomorrow, is that hiding? It's what they scored without the benefit of Monstrous Z at the plate.

Shifting gears, can anyone find Z's career offensive splits batting in Houston vs the rest of his career? He has 5 career homers, and I know that at least two were in Houston. I'm curious to see what the whole line looks like.

and because it wouldn't be a Big Z worship thread without the quote, I'll remind everyone that

If Zambrano starts, your in trouble

Z's homer was a line shot into the right-center field bullpen and definitely was not a cheapie.

Re the last comment: close. Pierre has 5 RBI.

Prior to tonight's game over the past three years:

3/12, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 HR, 8 Ks, .231/.231/.692/.923

Carlos Zambrano and Andres Nocioni are easily my 2 favorite athletes....EVER.

My friends and I were discussing what sort of reaction Z would have had if he completed the no hitter. Some of the ideas we came up with:

- Z would point to the sky and calmly walk off the mound

- Z would point to the sky and start dancing around in circles like he was doing a spanish 'ole' dance

- Z would clench his fist in victory with a really intense look on his face saying swear words in Spanish for about 5 minutes (most likely scenario)

Any ideas?

I think his head would explode like that dude in Scanners.

Yeah, Z crushed that ball.

Does everyone remember when of the two, Juan Cruz was considered easily the better of the Cubs' pitching prospects?

 :D  :D 8)
