Absolutely not. This question was brought up in another thread and my biggest fear about the Cubs having a fire sale is that Hendry would manage to screw that up and get horrible prospects in return.

No. Since I already am convinced that he would fail to identify the proper players, I just pray that he doesn't also pay ridiculous amounts of the outgoing players' salaries.

In terms of prospects, Matt Murton and Scott Moore have turned out pretty well. Jerome Williams and David Aardsma could still become productive.

Beyond that...the less said, the better.

This is such a ridiculous question. Name one trade where Hendry didn't get the right players.

Farnsworth for Novoa & Moore.

Patterson for whoever we got.

Nolasco, Pinto and Mitre for Pierre.

Koronka for Freddie Bynum.

Kenny Lofton and Am Ram for a bag of balls.

Hendry is a good GM. He'll make the right moves.

My problem isn't with Hendry's trade negotiating; it's that he waits way too long to make a deal, so they don't really help the team much. Getting anything for Patterson was a steal for us, Novoa and Moore are pretty decent prospects and Fansworth was at an all-time low at the time. His problem with trading for players is that he waits too long to get them, and his problem with his own players is that he waits too long to trade them. Patterson and Farnsworth should not have stayed here a game more than they did. They should have been traded two years before they were, and that was clear to a lot of people, just not Hendry. Hendry has made a couple of good trades but for the most his track record is definitely trending the wrong way. He did get ARam and DLee and got rid of Hundley, but you can't just name the few good trades he has made without looking at what has gone on the last couple of years, including trading Willis (which is really more of a hindsight is 20/20), being unable to manage the 40 man roster and losing Sysco. Overall he has not done a very good job. His worst move as GM, signing Dusty to a 4 year deal and bidding against himself to get him. His second worst move is yet to come when he re-signs Dusty to a two year extension.

A living human being for Jose Macias

Alfonseca.

Bynum.

That worthless Loogy they got from Arizona.

The Farnsworth, Sosa, and Patterson trades.

The myth that Hendry is King Midas with his trades doesn't really hold up.

Hendry has 2 or 3 really really great trades. (Hundley, Ramirez). He has a LOAD of terrible personnel decisions, though (see pretty much our entire current roster). He can't produce major league position players from our system. He can't figure out how NOT to have one of our more talented prospects taken in Rule V while such esteemed talents like Jose Macias and Neifi take up 40 man roster spots.

He can't field an outfield who is even mildly proficient at the plate.

He can't figure out that signing guys to high-priced 2 or 3 year deals when we're the only suitors is bad business and ruins our chances of helping the team elsewhere.

He is a NOT a good GM by any stretch of the imagination.

It's too bad MacPhail is such a dullard he didn't see Hendry starting to choke on his mission last year, when many of us on this very board were seeing the cracks in the armor. We saw it, but MacPhail couldn't. Hmmmmm......strange that unpaid fans can see what multi-million dollar executives cannot.

Instead he signed him to an extension, which has this entire franchise trapped in a corner like an animal. Except unlike many animals who are cornered, this one has no fight...

Terrible situation. This will go on for awhile. I hope we're prepared to see the blue "L" flag flying, because that's what it is going to be for a good long while.

...and once again Cub fans are left with that "punched in the gut" feeling. May 25th, wow. Didn't take long for this season to tank.

Hendry's made some bad moves, but Dubois for Gerut and Gerut for Lawton were two wins. Dubois because he was worthless and Gerut had a history of playing pretty decent when healthy. Lawton because of his numbers at the time of the trade.

They weren't wins. They were gambles that didn't work out in our favor. They wound up being washes, or double-losses, whichever way you want to look at it, because in no way did either trade help our team.

At the time, any sane individual would have made them though. In they end, they didn't work out, and we didn't lose anything.

Jason Dubois turned into Justin Berg, a high A pitcher with a 2-3 record and a 4.40 ERA

Jody Gerut and Matt Lawton were just middlemen in that whole process.

I don't know how any of that can be a good thing.
