...against his former team. The last one was a ROCKET, a no doubter, and it shut up Hawk for a while. ("Four nothing, A's", and then he dissociated himself for a while)

Amazing. This game was just surreal. The Sox come back from 4-0, and win with guess what, a squeeze bunt from Pablo Ozuna (WITH 2 OUTS AHHHHHH). What?! Its like some sick joke or something.

Poor Zito and poor Thomas. (I kinda got a soft spot in my heart for the A's, especially after reading Moneyball)

A's had 1st and 3rd with no one out and blew it in the 10th. On my annual 3-game trip to Wrigley last year, I saw Detroit blow two straight bases-loaded less than 2 out opportunities in two days against the Sox. I find it amazing how teams forget how to play the game when they play against this team.

They lost it when they were winning 4-0 through 7 or something and managed to relinquish the lead.

To Rob Mackowiak no less.

Sox fans also booed Thomas.

Class.

Total misrepresentation. The reception was surprisingly warm. They even cheered after the big pansy hit a homerun.

And booed him after that. I read it in a game thread from White Sox fans. it was either after the 2nd HR or his single, he was booed, and loud enough to make a Sox fan watching on TV notice.

I love how Hawk Harrelson mysteriously disappears for innings at a time, bu then Darrin Jackson is left to fend for himself. You know the scene in Wayne's World when Rob Lowe's character fires Wayne mid-show for the "He blows goats, I have proof" card, so Garth has to do the show himself? Yeah, that's DJ during a Hawk Vanish.

"We have a good game.......not...."

I didn't hear any boos, but I'm sure by late in the game there were some absolute idiots liquor'd up booing him. His first at-bat was very warm, thankfully. There's always idiots at every park. Did anyone see how Thome was received in Cleveland?

Don't be silly. The only drunk baseball fans are Cubs fans. Alcohol isn't even served anywhere else.

P.S.: drunk cubs fans lol

And still, I prefer that.

I'd like to comend the Sox fans who cheered him before his first AB; it actually gave me the chills.

Think what you will, he was one of three most dominant hitters of the 90's, and he's an HOFer w/out doubt.

Agreed. Funny how he can have ~150 less homers than Sammy and is practically guaranteed...and there are doubts about Sammy's ability to get in.

Especially when Thomas has just as much evidence of steroid use pointing at him as Sammy does (which is to say, none).

What do you want me to say?

Sosa career: .274/.345/.537/.882, 129 OPS+

Thomas career: .307/.427/.568/.995, 161 OPS+

I'm not sure what those numbers are supposed to mean in the context of steroids, but it always amazes me how good those numbers are for a guy who doesn't get that much pub for being an all-time great.

It was in the context of Thomas being a guaranteed HOFer while Sosa is in doubt.

I don't think Thomas has anywhere near as much pointing at him. Frank was always big, Sammy tripled in size during his career.

Ah, yes, OPS+ -- a favorite stat among HOF voters.

Batting average is, and a career .307 hitter looks very good to those voters.

Plus, wow, look at that career OBP. .427 is fantastic for a season, think of how incredible he had to be for so long to get it that high.

Lots of competition at 1B. I think Thomas should make it, but he's not a lock looking at the statistics the voters like. Playing more than half his career games at DH doesn't help either.

I don't think Thomas used at all, but just because someone started using steroids before he became an everyday major leaguer doesn't mean it didn't happen.
