  1. That can't be right. Are you sure you don't mean 27th youngest? They currently have like 9 rookies on the team, 8 of them being pitchers.
  2. Unless Fukudome is willing to move to Center Field, Milton Bradley is not an option at all. He can't play center anymore. He can barely play outfield actually. He's been hobbled by injury all season, recently leaving a game in sixth because of left knee tendinitis. He has 52 starts at DH this year and 19 appearances in RF/LF. Soriano/Fukudome/Bradley would be a terrible defensive outfield and, again, you'd be breaking your promise as an organization to Fukudome.
  3. Did Hawk get the score wrong? I thought he said that's nine, meaning the ninth grand slam in the history of the series.
  4. Baseball Prospectus, via PECOTA, projected the Sox at 82 wins in 2005. Perhaps this is where the skepticism and hubris comes from.
  5. Yeah, they cried all the way to the World Series.
  6. That's too simplistic of an explanation. A runner might cross home before the throw reaches first on a conventional double play in a bases loaded situation. But that run doesn't count if the doubleplay is completed. Not saying that it's a not a run, just saying that rationale isn't the reason the run counts. Again, looking if anybody knows the specific rule applying to this situation.
  7. My friend and I were playing a video game where a situation occured that led to a brief debate about the application of MLB rules in a certain situation. I figured the intelligent baseball minds here would know the answer to this. The situation is the bases are loaded with one out. A fly ball is hit to left field. A runner at second starts to go to third and is halfway there when the ball is caught. After the ball is caught, meaning two outs, the runner at third tags up. Meanwhile, the runner who was at second remains between second and third for whatever reason. The runner who correctly waited for the ball to be caught and tagged up from third crosses home plate, beating a throw from the left fielder while crossing the plate. The catcher realizes that the runner who started at second never tagged up and is in fact on his way back to avoid getting doubled up. The catcher throws to second before the runner who didn't tag up can return, recording the third out and ending the inning. Our question is does the run scored by the player from third count? Or did the player getting doubled up at second mean the run didn't count? I'd be very appreciate if anyone knew the answer and if there is a specific MLB rule that deals with this.
  8. Another argument about Matt Murton with a friend. I'll let NSBB decide.
  9. I got into a debate with a good friend about the Cubs' recent roster maneuvering. We were listing pros and cons of each player who was a bubble player and we hit a wall when discussing a certain aspect of Murton and Fontenot. Without disclosing what side of this argument I am on, I am curious to what the dedicated cubs fans of nsbb think.
  10. Thanks to all the posters who gave credit to Lou for going with Fontenot who was actually productive despite all of the non stop bashing of the decision. It's good to see that you are all nonreactionaries.
  11. If it is just a cramp, i hope Zambrano didn't talk Soriano out of drinking water. Zambrano's enthusiasm is infectious and I could easily see Soriano saying to himself "Yeah, water does suck. I am going to grab a corona and then some coffee" after hearing Z state his case on AIM someday.
  12. Mark Texiera had a quad strain too, but was only day-to-day with it: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=rotowire-arkeixeiraaytoaywith&prov=rotowire&type=fantasy I think it all comes down to severity.
  13. If only the two had recently made a trade... Danks 6-7 - 4.83 ERA - 108 IP McCarthy 4-7 - 5.52 ERA - 76.2 IP Danks is also younger, cheaper, left handed and under White Sox control for more years. Plus, KW got Nick Masset and Jacob Rasner as well. I think Williams showed Daniels how to stockpile young talent right in his face.
  14. Hey, it worked in Major League 2.
  15. Does anybody know the combined ERA of the Cubs' starting rotation last year including young guys like Marmol and O'Malley over the course of the entire season? Also, does anybody know where I can find a breakdown of performances by rotation spot? Thanks much.
  16. Reds would never trade Kearns within the division. Huff had one good month for the devil rays and is a free agent after the season.
  17. Those bitching about Hendry not getting involved in a Kearns deal need to stop. There is no way the Reds trade him within the division and have to hear about it for the next few years. Plus, the relievers in the deal are cheaper and younger than Williamson, Dempster and Howry. I like this trade a lot more for the Reds if it were in the offseason. Majewski and Bray will settle their bullpen for years. But they have no real way of filling the holes they created right now.
  18. The roster was finalized before today's game. Entering it, Buehrle had a 3.22 ERA, which was better than Schilling's 3.54. And why is it ridiculous for the players to take Konerko over Hafner? Their numbers are basically the exact same. Hafner 312 22 66 Konerko 314 20 63 When it's that even, shouldn't the player from the team that is 15 games better be selected?
  19. You are rooting for the Astros?
  20. I am a White Sox and Cubs fan (both of my parents supported different teams and it just kinda stuck) and I find Ozzie's comments deplorable, but I think it's also wrong to loop an entire fan base in with them. Do you want me to tag you with every idiotic thing your fans or organization does or say? How many Cubs fans posted that picture of Ozzie kissing one of his sons at Houston on the lips after winning the World Series? You don't think they they were playing on homophobia and saying something about his manlyhood? And didn't a Cubs fan run onto the field and attack Cubs pitcher Randy Myers like 10 years ago? And what does this have to do with the Gamboa attack anyway? Not to mention that idiot Ligue was at Wrigley earlier that day getting drunk as a skunk. I am starting to hate all the fan bases outside of those who practice intelligence and discretion. Sox fans are obsessed with the Cubs and too into Ozzie's asinine, macho antics, while Cubs fans think they are somehow better than White Sox fans and continnue to send their money to the Tribune corporation without fail.
  21. Did he use the B word or did I hear it wrong? WTH did that mean? He did. Piven's character on the HBO Comedy "Entourage" frequently says "Hug it out [expletive.]" to his clients. It's a poor and offensive attempt at humor/promotional plug.
  22. Do ERA and stats really matter after three appearences? Riske is an improvement if healthy and I can't imagine the Sox would deal for him if he wasn't. They already have one young guy in their bullpen. As for talk they acquire Riske to hit someone, please. That was stupid to think even before they announced he wouldn't join the team until Friday.
  23. Whatever. This was not some act of bravery by Tracey. He *wanted* to hit Hank, but simply missed because of his inexperience. He just failed to execute. This is like giving Hinckley credit for not killing Reagan.
  24. Total misrepresentation. The reception was surprisingly warm. They even cheered after the big pansy hit a homerun.
