  1. That can't be right. Are you sure you don't mean 27th youngest? They currently have like 9 rookies on the team, 8 of them being pitchers.
  2. Unless Fukudome is willing to move to Center Field, Milton Bradley is not an option at all. He can't play center anymore. He can barely play outfield actually. He's been hobbled by injury all season, recently leaving a game in sixth because of left knee tendinitis. He has 52 starts at DH this year and 19 appearances in RF/LF. Soriano/Fukudome/Bradley would be a terrible defensive outfield and, again, you'd be breaking your promise as an organization to Fukudome.
  3. Did Hawk get the score wrong? I thought he said that's nine, meaning the ninth grand slam in the history of the series.
  4. Baseball Prospectus, via PECOTA, projected the Sox at 82 wins in 2005. Perhaps this is where the skepticism and hubris comes from.
  5. Yeah, they cried all the way to the World Series.
  6. That's too simplistic of an explanation. A runner might cross home before the throw reaches first on a conventional double play in a bases loaded situation. But that run doesn't count if the doubleplay is completed. Not saying that it's a not a run, just saying that rationale isn't the reason the run counts. Again, looking if anybody knows the specific rule applying to this situation.
  7. My friend and I were playing a video game where a situation occured that led to a brief debate about the application of MLB rules in a certain situation. I figured the intelligent baseball minds here would know the answer to this. The situation is the bases are loaded with one out. A fly ball is hit to left field. A runner at second starts to go to third and is halfway there when the ball is caught. After the ball is caught, meaning two outs, the runner at third tags up. Meanwhile, the runner who was at second remains between second and third for whatever reason. The runner who correctly waited for the ball to be caught and tagged up from third crosses home plate, beating a throw from the left fielder while crossing the plate. The catcher realizes that the runner who started at second never tagged up and is in fact on his way back to avoid getting doubled up. The catcher throws to second before the runner who didn't tag up can return, recording the third out and ending the inning. Our question is does the run scored by the player from third count? Or did the player getting doubled up at second mean the run didn't count? I'd be very appreciate if anyone knew the answer and if there is a specific MLB rule that deals with this.
  8. Another argument about Matt Murton with a friend. I'll let NSBB decide.
  9. I got into a debate with a good friend about the Cubs' recent roster maneuvering. We were listing pros and cons of each player who was a bubble player and we hit a wall when discussing a certain aspect of Murton and Fontenot. Without disclosing what side of this argument I am on, I am curious to what the dedicated cubs fans of nsbb think.
  10. Thanks to all the posters who gave credit to Lou for going with Fontenot who was actually productive despite all of the non stop bashing of the decision. It's good to see that you are all nonreactionaries.
  11. If it is just a cramp, i hope Zambrano didn't talk Soriano out of drinking water. Zambrano's enthusiasm is infectious and I could easily see Soriano saying to himself "Yeah, water does suck. I am going to grab a corona and then some coffee" after hearing Z state his case on AIM someday.
  12. Mark Texiera had a quad strain too, but was only day-to-day with it: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=rotowire-arkeixeiraaytoaywith&prov=rotowire&type=fantasy I think it all comes down to severity.
  13. If only the two had recently made a trade... Danks 6-7 - 4.83 ERA - 108 IP McCarthy 4-7 - 5.52 ERA - 76.2 IP Danks is also younger, cheaper, left handed and under White Sox control for more years. Plus, KW got Nick Masset and Jacob Rasner as well. I think Williams showed Daniels how to stockpile young talent right in his face.
  14. Hey, it worked in Major League 2.
  15. Does anybody know the combined ERA of the Cubs' starting rotation last year including young guys like Marmol and O'Malley over the course of the entire season? Also, does anybody know where I can find a breakdown of performances by rotation spot? Thanks much.
