So, after a disappointing defeat Friday, the second game of the set at US Cellular Field promises much. Pain.

Hill is 0-3 with a 7.63 ERA

Garcia is 6-1 with a 4.56 ERA

On those stats, we can probably expect some runs... the last few weeks have taught us not to expect runs, though.

Who knows? Maybe it'll work out well.

Apologies for starting this up so early, but its knocking on midnight here, and I don't want to fall asleep and miss the boat. If it does work out well, I won't be able to start the thread for Sunday's game.

GO CUBS!

Never give in.. never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force.. never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

Winston Churchill

We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields, and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!

Winston Churchill

When is it too late to say it's still early for the Cubs? Try now. Their magic number is 1998, at least until it becomes 1999, but in lieu of a present, they offer you a future.

Cubs lose, 9-2. Hill manages to lose total control and breaks Lee's other wrist. Dusty ignores this and instead praises him for having found some "serious heat" with his pitching and gives him a hearty man-kiss in front of the press.

Here are the Cubs first three innings.

1st:

Neifi Perez pops out to second.

Neifi Perez strikes out.

Neifi Perez grounds out softly to shortstop.

2nd:

Neifi Perez strikes out.

Neifi Perez strikes out.

Neifi Perez pops out to catcher.

3rd:

Neifi Perez strikes out.

Neifi Perez strikes out.

Neifi Perez strikes out.

The whole team dies from food poisoning except for Neifi, so they have to clone him and have him play every position. Freddy Garcia pitches a perfect game in the White Sox infinity-0 win.

My Cubs pocket schedule, only seconds from being burned in the alley way, says the game is at 12:20. Did the time change?

No your right. I think the Sox hit early and often. I'm predicting something like 16-2 White Sox. Contraras will shut down our anemic offense on Sunday and will lead the Sox to a 3-0 win for the sweep. The Cubs will then goto Florida and lose 2 of 3 to our old pitchers. Pierre will go 0-16 in the series. Ok thats enough pessimism for one post :)

I have decided to postpone going to the Shoe in Hammond on account of rowdy Sox fans parading on the Ryan while traffic is miserable. Hooray for Joliet!

White Sox 0 Cubs -2

The White Sox become the first team to win a nine inning game and not score any runs. I'll let you use your imaginations on how the Cubs scored negative runs.

I think the pessimism is a little much in this case. Rich Hill isn't our stopper, but note that the Sox are a poor hitting team against lefties.

This game could go either way.
