Come on guys, who didn't see it coming. A scrub pitcher who gets rocked by all other teams goes against the Cubs and shuts them down and makes the players look silly.

K #6 for Woodrow.

Wood has settled down nicely.

Only problem is that Woody ALWAYS has the tough inning or two when he gets lit up and looks solid the rest of the game

Except for the fact that that's not true, you're dead on.

Anybody who goes crazy when Wood nibbles should take note of this outing.

5 IP, 71 pitches, 14.2 per inning, 6 k, 0 BB, 5 H. He got beat on 3 HR, which guys give up when they are always in the zone but aren't perfect every time.

I'm fine with Wood's outing today (though I wish it had gone another inning or so). He looked very good aside from the homers of course.

But if the offense doesn't improve, Wood won't matter.

Not trying to be glib, but should we care how he looks or what the results are? Giving up 3 HRs in 5 innings isn't good, even if he struck out 15 batters. That's always been the problem with KW

Dusty: "What can you say? He was due. We just ran into him at the wrong time. You have to tip your cap. Hopefully we'll start getting some breaks like that soon."

Obviously your expectations were very high today. Mine weren't and I was impressed. I actually was expecting a very sloppy high pitch\high walk total today.

Why do you care? Let him have his opinion, if you don't like it, ignore it.

If somebody has the opinion that Wood is a near lock (I would be shocked if....) to leave this game with discomfort, than other people have every right to reply.

Some people are optimists some are pessimists calling them bitter is not going to change that. That is the point I was making.

Optimists or pessimist it does not matter, the point was made that expectations were unrealistic given the type of complaints. He made a good point, although the bitter comments might have been unnecessary.

No...no it hasn't. And yes, considering the amount of time he's been gone, this is like opening day for him. As I recall, Z wasn't too sharp on opening day, and he's doing fine now.

KW's problem has been walks. So the occasional homer or hit scored runs. 2 of the 3 homers were solo. Considering everything, I'm not concerned about Kerry. I'm concerned about the lineup.

You should care how he looks, given it was his first game back, results were not the end all. But he walked nobody had a WHIP of just 1.00 and struck out 6 in 5 IP, while averaging just 14.2 pitches per inning. Those results are all very positive.

So basically the only way we win games and score runs is if the other team gives us a lot of unearned ones. Otherwise we're screwed.

With the loss of velocity, I'm concerned.
