I don't care whether JJ has been hitting well of late, I still can't stand him. Didn't help when I saw him hit a grounder to strand two guys in scoring position, followed up by lollygagging to No Man's Land to even try for a fielding play the following inning.

Three years of this. If Hendry manages to unload JJ, he will surpass his Hundley coup.

The difference of course is that Hundley was Lynch's mistake. JJ is all on Hendry.

The games it's over yet. Hang in there 5 runs isn't insuremountable. I hope the offense at the very least get's Wood off the hook.

When was the last time the Cubs came back from a 5 run deficit?

If only Fred was here.

I wish the Cubs would show some balls and make a comeback. Everytime they get down early it seems they just go into a shell and give up.

Hendry needs to find guys with FIRE! and INTENSITY!

He needs guys with POWER! and OBP!

Not if they don't know how to win. I'd rather have scrappy and hustling players than guys who strike out a lot and clog the bases with walks.

Which part? That Wood looks solid for the majority of the game or that he always has a bad inning.

That he always has a bad inning. Unless you're expecting shutouts all the time, he does not always have bad innings. He's not God. He's had bad innings, yes, but every pitcher does.

Anybody who goes crazy when Wood nibbles should take note of this outing.

5 IP, 71 pitches, 14.2 per inning, 6 k, 0 BB, 5 H. He got beat on 3 HR, which guys give up when they are always in the zone but aren't perfect every time.

I'm fine with Wood's outing today (though I wish it had gone another inning or so). He looked very good aside from the homers of course.

But if the offense doesn't improve, Wood won't matter.

Not trying to be glib, but should we care how he looks or what the results are? Giving up 3 HRs in 5 innings isn't good, even if he struck out 15 batters. That's always been the problem with KW

No...no it hasn't. And yes, considering the amount of time he's been gone, this is like opening day for him. As I recall, Z wasn't too sharp on opening day, and he's doing fine now.

KW's problem has been walks. So the occasional homer or hit scored runs. 2 of the 3 homers were solo. Considering everything, I'm not concerned about Kerry. I'm concerned about the lineup.

With the loss of velocity, I'm concerned.

Isn't velocity the last thing to come back after shoulder surgery?

I'm not sure, but I look at some others whom had the surgery and they never got it back like M. Morris.
