I say we give them Freddie Bynum for him. I think the Rockies need a fast, versatile player like Bynum. It's going to hurt to lose Bynum, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullett.

Bynum needs to work on his sac bunting to play for the Rockies.

And what do the Cubs do with the two prospects they already have at 1B?

Tell 1 to not get hurt before Lee again and the other to do something with the bat. Dopirak was probably not ready anyway, and Sing has been showing signs of why he was left unprotected and subsequently unclaimed when the Rule V draft came around.

Well this guy can absolutely rake...and if he could even play a Dubois-esque OF, he could be a big part of the team for a few years. If the Rox are willing to take a Rich Hill for Shealy trade...bye Rich...

Sing and Hoffpauir? Hoffpauir will be lucky to ever see the big leagues, and Sing has the ceiling of a platoon player, or maybe a poor everyday OF on a terrible team, which brings up the fact his future is probably as an OF. Neither of them is anywhere near Shealy's caliber.

If you're referring to Dopirak, he was several years away even before the broken foot, and he was coming off an awful offensive year.

Dope's best OPS was in '04, when he put up at .956 in single A ball.

Shealy has a career minor league OPS of 1.011 over 4 years (not including this year) His career OBP is .417. Dope's highest, again, was in .363 in '04.

Shealy even had an .886 OPS in 90+ ABs in the majors last year.

Him being in the way of Dope shouldn't be an issue at all. He's an amazing hitter.

Here's his numbers last year for the Rockies:

36G 91AB 14R 30H 2HR 16RBI 13BB 22K 1SB .330AVG .413OBP .473SLG.

This is exactly the type of player we need. If the asking price isn't too high we should trade for this guy.

FWIW, when Lee went down, there was speculation on the Scout Rockies board about Williams or the like for Shealy. In other threads, Shealy was the prospect that spearheaded a lot of trade rumors, similar in value as we put on Hill/Guzman/Williams.

If the Cubs could somehow pull off a miracle and trade Jerome Williams for Ryan Shealy, I will volunteer to drive Williams to Denver myself.

This guy even looks awsome.

Guzman/Hill/Williams for this stud. I dont really care which one. Throw in AARDVARK.

I'd love to for us to snag Shealy. I think that could be a bigger move than any made in the offseason. I would hope that when Lee returns he could help us out in an outfield platoon too. He couldn't be any more of a butcher in OF than Jones or Pierre.

If this kid is truly an "Amazing hitter", then why is he 27 yrs old, and still can't get an everyday job? This kid would be perfect as 1B/DH for clubs like Detroit, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, etc...yet..no team has seem to be iterested in acquiring him. And save me from the rhertoric of "The Rockies are asking to much for him", or "Clubs don't know who Shealy is." All that is...is rhetoric speak. Scouts know who this kid is...and yet there is few nibbles for Shealy....why? Maybe because his is a AAAA guy....or his swing isn't nearly as good at the ML level as it has been in AAA.

I would take Shealy, but I don't think he is a better "prospect" then Dopirak.

I'm not sure why no one is making a big fuss over this kid, but I know that he's done nothing but rake everywhere he's gone. Even a brief stay in the bigs last year had him producing fairly well. Maybe it's the fact that he plays 1b and there isn't a high demand for 1b with such little major league experience. I mean, lets face it, not many clubs want to hand over 1b (an expected offensive force in the lineup) to a rookie during a potential playoff run.

I see stats with this kid, I've never seen him hit. His stats are darn good though, and from all accounts, he can flat out rake. I don't care who it is, a career 1.011 OPS is nuts, no matter what level. That's similar to Pujols' career OPS in the bigs. Say he loses .100 off that just from the jump to the bigs. He's still a solid hitter...Lee's career OPS is .866.

Okay so maybe "amazing" is pushing it. Right now though, Lenny Harris looks "amazing" compared to the offense that's been out there for our club, and this guy is a far cry from Lenny Harris.

Don't be fooled by the 27 years old thing. It's not like he's been toiling in the minors for 6 years waiting to get his shot. He was old for his grade adn then went to school all 4 years. This year(mainly because all-star Helton is at 1B for the major league club) is the first year he's played at the same level, BA ranked him Colorado's 8th best prospect this year, and McKamey ranked him 9th, and he put up a nearly .900 OPS in his MLB time last year. He's not a AAAA guy.

Even if Shealy was a AAAA player, which I highly doubt he is, it still improves the team because half the offense we already have is AAA quality.

Neither Pierre nor Jones are butchers in the OF. They throw like 8 year old girls, but they cover a lot of ground.

I never said he was a "AAAA" player, I just question why...as he is about to turn 27, he's never had an opportunity to play everyday.

He failed to impress in the outfield and Helton was blocking him at 1b. Colorado can't afford a poor fielding outfielder.

Thome was blocking Ryan Howard during his entire stay in Phily.

I agree....I guess I should've clarified. I'm tired of their noodle arms.
