Sox got ripped on a foul tip call, Ozzie comes out and rips into the Umps & gets tossed.

Dusty would sit there like a bump on a log in that situation, or at the very most come out and strike up a pleasant conversation that accomplishes nothing.

It's just one more thing I don't like about Baker. Not that he needs to act like a buffoon ala Earl Weaver every game. But how about a little fire every once in awhile, especially with a team as apathetic as this one?

There was a bad call earlier in the inning as well.

I'd be pissed too.

What inning was this?

It was just last inning. I think Minny scored all 5 of their runs.

Did he get tossed before, during, or after the runs?

During. They had 3 runs, then he got tossed, then Minny got another 2-run single.

that was the only time I have ever seen Dusty get that mad in his tenure here.

wasn't that the game where we came back and won in the 9th on a tying homer by Sosa and then one pitch later, the game-winner by Alou?

Look at how inspired the White Sox were after he got kicked out too!

Ahh, ye of the instant gratification generation.

Maybe it will inspire them tomorrow..

Maybe not. With Dusty, we'll never even know what would happen.

Maybe Dusty not raving like a lunatic will inspire the Cubs tomorrow. Maybe my crap will be green and smell like rainbow sherbet.

And maybe we should look at where Dusty's act has gotten the Cubs, versus Ozzie's & the White Sox...

Round and round we go. I guess Dusty should've thrown a bat rack on the field during the 2002 World Series. Then he'd be as decorated as Ozzie.

I don't think it's an argument about whether or not it inspires the team. It's more about letting the umpires know they effed up a call. The foul tip call was horrible, not to mention the first base call, Ozzie went out and let them have it. That's better than sitting on your hands.

and I just saw on BBTN a few mins ago how Ozzie got ejected. Can't blame him for it...2 awful calls in one inning gave the Twins 2 extra outs. I'd be pissed too. That is a situation though where Dusty would probably just be sitting in the dugout wondering what's for dinner that night.

No, he would be wondering what lure to use the next time he goes on a fishing trip.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Dusty Baker as the manager of the Cubs, but I wouldn't want Ozzie either. "HE HAS A RING!" So does Brenly. Who cares? Edited by /

does anyone else remember how much the cubs players argued calls during the 04 campaign? it seemed to me we got far less calls after all the 'fire' that year.

Bad times. Baker, Wood, Mercker, Hawkins, and Alou all blowing up.

But they had INTENSITY!! AND FIRE!!! AND GRIT!!! Wasn't that a team taht was easy to like, even if they did miss the playoffs, you knew they cared...No wait, everybody hated them.

At least Dusty can speak english.

I'd prefer it if Dusty didn't speak English. Then when he tells Murton to be more aggressive and stop taking all those walks, Matt could just look at him curiously and go up to the plate and patiently look for a ball to drive.

For some reason, so many are against a manager getting angry and firing up the team. You say it does nothing to help the team in any way. Well, then why are you against it??? What harm would it cause for our manager to act like that?

It wouldn't be anything other than a guy getting angry. It's not going to help our pitchers to stop putting the team in early holes, and it won't stop Clines and Matthews from preaching an obviously flawed approach at the plate, which particularly kills them after said pitching staff couhgs up an early 5 spot.

It would be an arbitrary, meaningless expression contradicting his supposed lack of interest. It wouldn't do beans for this team.
