It's one thing to say no other manager could make this a .600 ballclub. It's probably true that most managers would have a tough time playing .500 ball with this club.

But do people really think every manager would get this little out of this club? The talent level isn't that low.

Exactly, and the talent level was as good or better in 2004 and 2005 and Baker got nothing out of them either.

What happened in 2004 is a bigger crime that what's happening this year. That team was a playoff team if Baker's not managing it.

Hendry didn't help matters when he didnt trade for a much needed closer.

The 2004 and 2005 teams were terrible also. Don't sugar coat it. Our bullpens those two years were terrible and how many key injuries did we have?

As bad as the 04 team was it was good enough to make the playoffs with a better manager.

We didn't have a closer. I think we lead the league in blown saves by the pen.

not many lineups would have won 5 of the last 6 games. the pitching's getting lit.

8 runs today. 9 runs yesterday. 6 runs on tuesday. 8 on monday. 6 last sunday.

Ok...how many runs did WE score in those games? I bet there's a lot of 0's and 1's....

2004 team was good. There's no excuse for not even winning the wild card. If our bullpen wasn't good, we should have been bringing up some of the many young arms we had in the minors. And I don't just mean guys who were relievers in the minors. Look at Papelbon with Boston right now. We would have been better off trying some of our minor league starters as closers than sending out Latroy game after game.

Seriously, when your Sox or Cardinal "friends" mock the Cubs, how can you defend them?

I just start crying and then make them buy me beer.

My Sox fans buddy don't even tease me anyone. They actually feel sorry for me.

And perhaps the pitching coach has something to do with that.

maybe. they seem to like to nibble the edges a lot.

I agree, how many times have we seen Prior get ahead 0-2 only to run the count full. Giving 8 and 9 runs to these lineups is pathetic, beyond the Cubs, the Padres and Giants have two of the poorest lineups in the NL. Combined they have two quality hitters - Giles and Bonds - two more than the Cubs of course.

I should have thought of that. I killed mine.

Your friends?

Ha! Everybody look at the cubs.com headline for the game:

Guzman helps his cause, exits after three

I'd say that is incredibly accurate. I dont' think they mean it in the way that it comes across, but that is too funny.

If they are going to fire Baker get a manager that knows Chicago and the Chicago Cubs. It's a shame that Giardi got snatched up because I'd love to give him a shot. You need someone that bleeds Cubbie blue that understands what being a Cub fan is like.

Yep, killed them until they died from it.

Terrible? 2004 they won more games than 2003. They were extremely talented. 2005 was talented, much more than a .500+ team.

And how long are people going to use injuries as an excuse?

I predict a 25-game winning streak now that Barrett has shown some FIRE! and INTENSITY!

That's the kind of clubhouse leader this team needs.

What happened?

He and roberts had some words after roberts scored. Resulted in warnings.

Didn't Barrett do the same thing in 2004 with the Astros' and that eneded up firing up the 'Stros to the playoffs? You would think he'd learn.

I'm pretty sure the Cubs choking, and Dusty being an awful manager is the reason we didn't make the playoffs that year.

Blaming Barrett is about the dumbest thing I've heard.

OMG, Neifi got an extra base hit AND an RBI.

The apocalypse must be coming.

The bigger surprise was that he got to a three ball count, and actually took two pitches after that!

the Cards is one question. with the Sox fans, I simply respond by saying I am a Cub fan this year, I was a Cub fan last year, and a Cub fan the 33 years before that. I don't take a year off. I don't take a decade off.

both can be responded to by saying 'go eat your turkey pot pie, surf internet porn, drink a red white and blue, and shine your commemorative Dale Earnhardt license plate holder.'

My bad...I was thinking back a bit further....Starting from the 2nd

0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 3, 3, 1, 1, 3, and 3 today.

Yes, our pitching has struggled, but so has our offense. The team has just been bad overall.
