A paradox I've been pondering for a while...

Does being a Cub fan cause depression, or does depression caus being a Cub fan?

I have a bad feeling that the Cubs lack of a WS championship will go 125 years. :(

I want to be positive. I really do.

I wouldn't presume to go so far as to say the Cubs losing makes me DEPRESSED, since depression can be VERY serious and in the end this is "just baseball"...but it definitely puts me in a very bad mood that typically dictates how the rest of or the next day will go.

Or in this case, the rest of the summer.

I really should give up this team (rather baseball in general.. I'll give up baseball before I root for another team), as this is not helping my clinical depression.

Ditto

Although the constant drinking might have something to do with it for me... I guess I could just blame that on the Cubs too.

Or the rest of the year...

Naw. We got DA BEARS starting in the fall!!!

So you're looking forward to the inevitable Rex Grossman injury?

No, I'm looking for a team I love to actually make the playoffs.

Me too...but he seems so fragile each season...can anyone prove he wasn't a Cubs pitching prospect at some point?

We actually have 2 capable backups this year:

1997 National Championship Brian Griese

10-5 as a starter Kyle Orton

I actually think being a Cubs fan is a criteria for diagnosis of depression, delusions, and auditory hallucinations* in the DSM.

*The idea being that hearing voices is one of the only feasible reasons anyone would willingly choose to be a Cubs fan.

If being a Cubs fan means thinking changing the manager is going to matter, then yes it creates mental illness. Our problems run deeper than Dusty's foibles.

Joe Torre or Lou Piniella would be hard-pressed to do much with this mess.

<--- never seen a 10-5 QB hated as much as Orton was most of last year.

Quite frankly, some of these threads belong in rants.

Quite frankly, you could just ignore threads you have nothing of value to offer.

In our defense, he sucked and was the worst starter in the NFL last year. That isn't to say he didn't get good expeirence which will hopefully contribute to his development.

He wasn't hated, he just wasn't any good. But, he was just a rookie. Compare it to the current Cubs. If the pitching was throwing shut outs everyday and the offense was putting up 1 run a game, do you say the offense is doing great because they are winning every game? I'd say the pitching is doing great and they need to get better hitters to improve the offense so that they can keep winning games.
