the problem that you guys aren't seeing is this..right now if we sit pierre for hairston, that means neifi plays second(more than likely) or bynum plays cf. we all have problems with hairston, neifi and bynum..i guess you pick your poison!

i wouldn't mind seeing pierre get a day off vs a tough lefty then i guess it wuld make sense to hit neifi and hairston because pierre is not hitting lefties at all.

let me get this right...murton,barrett and cedeno all need days off- usually vs a righty(who they all hit against the rest of the time) but pierre and jones who can't tough lefties don't get days off?

neifi and hairston aren't much but i'm pretty sure that 1 day a week they can replace a guy who is hitting .100 against lefties...i think neifi can drop one hit in every ten at bats..

As a starter Pierre is useless if he's not leading off. He can't drive in or even advance runners and his defense sucks so he's not someone you just stick at #8 like you do with non-hitting but good defensive catchers and shortstops. If you don't let him lead off you may as well bench him.

If he's struggling when Lee comes back do the Cubs actually have the balls to come out with this lineup:

Walker

Cedeno

Lee

Aramis

Barrett

Murton

Jones

Pierre

Pitcher?

He's awful, and his killing this team when we have better leadoff guys available.

I know right now we can't move him due to personell moves, but could you see them making such a drastic move? IF Pierre doesn't leadoff well, he's worthless - he might not even be a good 8th hitter.

Thats a dumb lineup.

Murton is best at leadoff, he has the highest OBP...so its natural.

I wondered... but I dont know you guys well enough yet. :D

Here's a hint, if a post has the word "dude" in it; it's sarcastic.

You do realize that he's batting .311/.363/.432 against righties this year. It's lefties he's struggling against at .140/.178/.140

Murton is .246/.325/.348 against righties.

He's not hitting anyone right now. I'm interested to see if those splits are just a reflection of the ton of lefties we saw during the homestand.

As i suspected all along, there is something going on.

I had heard that DLee had called Juan after his visit to the doctor in Chicago and told him that he had to lead the club until he gets back. They are apparently very good friends in real life as well.

So Juan has been pressing trying to do all he can. Nice to see this comment from Dusty this afternoon.

Baker likes hearing that center fielder Juan Pierre doesn't want a day off and feels responsible for the team's struggles. "You want guys like that, you want guys who don't pass the buck or spread the blame," Baker said. "You want players like Juan Pierre. I don't care what your name is, you're going to struggle. You have to fight through it."

Wow! I forgive him now!

Keep grounding to second, Juan! I know you're trying hard!

Like someone said a few posts ago Juan is hitting .289 with a .337 obp vs. righthanded pitchers maybe he should take a night off when we face a lefty or have rusch throw batting practice to him.

Well, I guess Wed. night answered this question. Bein' out in NY, I don't get to see many games on TV, but I try to follow box scores. I've been hoping that Ronnie would get a shot at the Leadoff spot, so I was excited to see this move. Not that I am at all OK w/Dusty, but I was glad to see this one.

Interesting until you take this into consideration:

Career Splits

L=.298/.343

R=.303/.354

Not much to hang our hat on.

EDIT: Dont get me wrong id love to see Juan post those stats. My intent is to show he really isnt that much of a different hitter facing lefites or righties.

There was a recent article in BP that showed lefty/righty splits are much more pronounced for sluggers. Slap-hitting contact guys like Pierre see little difference in lefty/righty splits.
