Aren't you guys tired of the same crap year in and year out?

I've been a loyal fan of this team for most of my 37 years, and they NEVER win it. I was so sure at one point that we would win it all befor that team on the south side whom I refuse to acknowledge.

BUt it didn't happen.

Plus it looks like that team is BETTER this yeaar.

Please, I need a reason for hope with this team.

I think most would agree around here, once the Cubs are in your blood, you never lose it. You will be a fan, like it or not. Right now, its tough and to be honest looks like a rough season ahead...However, for some reason I get a ray of hope before every game and cannot wait until the day the Cubs win the World Series! It will be a party and I will be there!

Go Cubs!

Give me a friggin break, we're not even at .500 yet.

It's way too early to give up on the season.

Can people please stop citing the Astros? We don't have a rotation of Clemens-Petitte-Oswalt even if Prior and Wood come back healthy. Those 3 were pitching out of their minds the second half of last year. If we go 15 under .500 at any point in the season we are screwed. I guarantee it.

I was going to say the same thing. So what if the Astros made a great comeback? We all know our manager and his willingness to make a bazillion double switches and give up in the 5th inning. And we're not the Astros!

This team needs a spark... and Wood makes sparks.

Phil Garner is also a horrible manager.

When you think about it, wood and sparks don't really go very well together at all...wood tends to burst into flames, actually.

Okay, so that's too terrible to even be called a "joke," but I still find it a little humorously foreboding.

Remember Prior at the end of 2003? I'd say we even have the potential to be a better team than the Astros were last year.

Not yet. It's only been 20 years for me so far. ;)

Plus I don't hate the White Sox at all. But I'm not from Chicago either, guess I don't truly get that whole thing.

I honestly don't know how any Cub fan could be angry or suprised.

I'll just go by my thirty years of Cubfandom.: 84,89,93,03. No World Championships. That's it. In thirty years. I look at those four years as the exception, not the rule. Sure I think it would be great if the Cubs won it all, but '03 solidifed it for me. Hope for the best, expect the worst.

What about when Wood and Prior come back? I look at them as projects. I expect nothing out of both and anything more is gravy. And one or both will more than likely be injured again.

This is, after all, the only team in all professional sports to go this long without a title.

The Cubs aren't exactly entering unknown territory with their bad play.

Sure I'm tired of the same old crap, but hey, it's the Cubs. I quit buying their tickets 5 years ago.

Honestly, I think many of us probably expected these results deep down. I mean, the Cubs had a bad offense and added J. Jones and Pierre to that expecting to make it better. Then there's the fact that they are relying on two "front line" starters who have a history of injuries. Take away the best player from all of this (Lee) and it's a wonder that they're above .500. They likely won't be for long. I hope I'm wrong.

All I know is that we should all qualify for SSI disability for our continued support of this team. I will never quit on these Cubs, but to compare them to the Astros is not fair. Bad luck, bad managing, and great fan support. It's too bad really.

Ill compare all i want.

The astros had no sort of offense last year, the teams are similar

I wasn't trying to offend you. I just think that the Cubs are a case by themselves, not only because of their luck, but they didn't have Roger Clemens. And the Astros didn't have the goat. It's a long season. And I can cling to my hopes, as we all can. Sorry if I offended.

you didnt, i wasant even replying to you.

The cubs need a big bat right now, someone to protect Aram. thats part of his problem, he is getting nothing to hit really. The cubs have the potential to have a great pitching staff if they can stay healthy. it sure wouldve been nice if we had Vlad right now when he wanted to come to chicago in 2004.

Some people actually predicted that the Cubs would have a hard time scoring runs this year.

The problems we are seeing this year are the same problems of last year and the year before. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it.

I wonder why Hendry doesn't see it though.

And that problem is not injuries.

My gut is telling me that the Cubs will have a hard time scoring runs even when Derrek Lee gets back, but my gut is also very hungry.

Did somebody say there were going to be chicken wings?

Way to bring the thread down.

The Boston Braves in 1914 were FIFTEEN games under .500 on the 4th of July and in last place in the NL.

They won the NL by 10.5 games.

If the injuries have nothing to do with it, how could we be doing so well until Lee's injury and then just collapse. We were executing scoring quite a few runs etc. before his injury and now it's as if there is no heart anymore. Almost like Derrek Lee was the heart of the Cubs and until we have heart replacement surgery we are doomed.
