What was the story with either two consecutive players, or LaRussa asking to have the ball checked a couple of times? That was a little ridiculous.

I'm wondering if the ball looks like its covered in grease when you can't do anything to Maddux.

Covered in grease? The ump checked it and there was no evidence of anything. The only thing that was on those balls was the mud they use before the game!

He said "looks like it's covered in grease," not that it IS covered in grease.

I know what he said. I was irate about the idea not what he said.

Before Maddux singled in the next inning, I was hoping he would ask the ump to check the ball. That would have cracked me up.

Knowing Maddux, the thought probably crossed his mind.

I would have rather seen a little Edmonds chin music myself though...

if it wasn't for the man on 2nd at the time, we probably would have seen just that. however, putting up goose eggs and then laughing at the cards dugout on the way off the mound was even better.

This is typical Cardinals B.S.

They've been pulling it for years. Good job to Mad Dog punking their collective arses.

Maddux was doing a lot of hair/forehead wiping before pitches. Tony was trying to fire his team up/break maddux's machine like efficient domination/see if he was sweating up the ball.

So what difference does it make if opposing pitchers does it the same thing as well?

TLR just needs to man up and admit that Maddux just completely owned the Cardinals. That's all I'm gonna say in this subject.

That's only effective if you look like this:

MLB umpires should have a boy who cried wolf policy.

Crisco...Bardol...Vagisil. Any one of those will give you another 2-3 inches drop on your curve ball.

I suppose next you'll say Maddux was rubbing jalapeno up his nose between innings.

Tony is a baby. This isn't the first time he has said/insinuatied the Cubs were cheating. I just don't think the man's ego will let him take a loss to the Cubs without their integrity into question. Headhunting, stealing signs, doctoring the balls...it's always the something with him. It's actually pretty juvenile, IMO.

And Tony is smart enough to know he isn't going to get in Maddux's head. A young or hot headed pitcher maybe, but not Mad Dog. I think the ball checking today was his latest blatant effort to imply that the Cubs are dirty.

2 Words. BUSH LEAGUE.

Show some respect for a first ballot HOF. He's lucky Maddux isnt as mean or throw as hard as Roger.

....or as much of a PRICK as Edmonds.

lol at the sensitivity. I wasn't accusing Maddux of anything. Since when is it such an issue when an opposing manager and player participate in a little gamesmanship when an opposing pitcher is on a role? It's part of the game. Greg was making people look foolish so they tried to slow him down and get in his head. It won't work on a guy like Maddux but you might as well try. It's the same stuff that Dusty pulls when he yells at Carpenter out on the mound.

So I guess the days of mass Maddux hate threads are over for now at NSBB?

If anyone saw the Penny game in LA, after nearly every out Penny would take off his hat, run his hand through his hair and put it back on. No one said a word. But apparently if a pitcher is dominating a TLR team its ok to insult him no matter the issue. I wonder what La Russa's soundbite was like after the game.

Standard hypocrisy from LaRussa. When Tavarez's cap was checked(and he was thrown out for it) he went nuts.

Pot meet TLR.

Indeed. Tony and hypocrisy go way back together.

If Tony was so worried about the integrity of the game he wouldn't have let Kline and Tavares put pinetar on the bill of their caps. Talk about ridiulous.
