Oddly enough, this poster only seems to lurk around here to boast when the Astros are doing well.

I must say, I have a lot more respect for the Cards fans on this board. Even when we swept them at home they still were full of respect and congratulatory words.

I guarantee this poster would not show their face if the Astros were in an unfavorable position. What really irks me is that arrogant tone...

He is notorious for this behavior. Totally homeristic and fairweather, bordering on outright troll-ism.

And I agree, I really respect the Cards fans on this board. They are here consistently, and are generally objective and self-depricating when the situation calls for it. They don't gloat (too much, even though they could) and are generally fun to converse with.

when Roger Clemens comes back to the Astros at the first of June?

What team in the NL will be able to compete with them at that point? The Cards are the only one I can think of, and I still think they'll be the underdog.

Hi, Jimy. Are they spiking the Kool-Aid at MMP or something? I grant that I have only skimmed this thread, but your toolish behavior in it is not what I remember to be your M.O.

I agree. I always thought he was fairly respectful and a decent poster.

Thanks for the kind words about some of the Cards posters here. I think I speak for most of us when I say I've always enjoyed posting here. You folks deserve a winning team.

As far as Clemens goes, I heard on ESPN 1000 this morning that people are starting to think the Yankees are going to take a very serious run at Clemens. With Johnson not pitching like a dominant ace, and their farm system in crappy shape, they see the rocket as their best chance this year. As always they have the money to outbid for his services.

I think it would be good for the Cards and Cubs.

Also, maybe he can play for the AL in the All-Star game and get clobbered.

I wish they were, after this past weekend!

Won't happen, unless Drayton seriously low balls him.

And what makes the yankees any closer to winning a WS than the astros with the addition of Clemens?

Go look at the Yankees lineup then compare that group to your Astros. I think you will find your answer!

That one is pretty easy

Damon, Jeter, A-Rod, Matsui, Sheffield, and Cano.

Musina, Johnson, Clemens > Oswalt, Pettitte, Clemens

The addition of Clemens makes the 'stros just as likely to get to the WS as the Yanks.

Just b/c I'm such a nice guy, I'll even let you in on how much the 'stros will pay Clemens. $15m.

And so it is written.

So what happens when the Yankees or Sawx offer him 18?

Shreveport Times[/url]"]What would Berkman do if he were in Clemens' shoes?

"There's really nothing left in the game for him to accomplish," said Berkman. "And yes, he still can compete and can still pitch. But for me personally, I want to go out on my own terms and I want to go off on a high note. And I think he's done that by pitching well and helping us get to the World Series last year. So if I was him, I would probably stay retired."

Way to convince him Berkman!

There's one Astro that must not want him back that much

In other words "Please don't go play for the Rangers!".

Or thinks he might play for a different team, and would rather see him retire than see him on another team.

Do you think Clemens has some loyalty to the Astros?

If so, where does that notion come from?

He lives in the city, he enjoyed playing here, his kid plays for the team, he'll live here long after he's through playing, he has a 10 year services contract with the club, he has business interests in Houston... yea, I'd say he has some loyalty to the city of Houston, not so much the astros.

or...we were sick of the special treatment he got last year, and now he wants to miss 1/3 of the season and then return as if he's doing us some sort of favor. screw him.

back to the 'Clemens just openned a restuarant' theory, Chelios openned a restuarant about a year before the leaving the Blackhawks for their most hated rival.

generally atheletes don't open restuarants. financiers open restuarant's, and pay the atheletes to put their name on it and supply the bric-a-brac. in other words, if the restuarant tanked, it probably would't effect Clemens' bank account one iota. he already got his money.

further, it takes alot of local endorsements to make up the extra millions the Yankees or RedSox would throw at him.

all that said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he came back to the Astros. I don't particularly care because power pitching doesn't treat 43 year olds particularly kindly. I highly doubt he keeps up the pace of the past two years. I for one would love to see the Astros pony up 15M on a guy who most likely will put up numbers similar to those he put up for most of his time with the Yankees.

Mussina, Johnson, Clemens > Oswalt, Pettitte, Clemens

Not on your life.

Just coming to this thread. Jimy sure is cocky these days. Amazing to see that kind of attitude. Makes sense coming from somebody who can't spell Buchholz. Buchholz looks good but he's a rookie with a strange track record. Wandy, Nieve and Astacio still scare the hell out of me.

Back to the top 3 of the rotation. Mussina is not anywhere near as good as Oswalt. Mussina has become a league average pitcher. In fact, I'd take Oswalt over Mussina in his prime. In five seasons, Oswalt has four years with an ERA+ above 140 and his numbers this year are as good as ever.

I have no idea how good Johnson will be. He had a phenomenal year in 2004 sandwiched between two mortal years. Is age catching up to him? Beats me. Pettitte is eight years younger. I have no idea how good Pettitte will be. Given the ERA+ for both of these guys over the last three season, I don't know how somebody could definitively pick one over the other this year.

Given the huge discrepency between Mussina and Oswalt, I'm not sure how Mussina, Johnson, Clemens > Oswalt, Pettitte, Clemens. As much as the media might lead you to think that Roger is twice as good when he wears pinstripes, I don't think that would be enough to tilt the scales.
