Kind of a spinoff from the worst trade thread. Which player in the league this year is the most overpaid. Not necessarily the highest paid, just the the one with worst ratio of production to paycheck.

I'd say Bonds is worse after hardily even playing last year and sucking this year.

Jason Kendall is bad too. .666 OPS 0 Hrs last year and he is making 11.5 million.

I think we could make a case for Kerry Wood. Yeah, he's been hurt, but bottom line, his production has fallen wayyy short of that fat contract.

Odalis Perez had a 4.56 ERA in 109 IP and is getting almost 9 million this year.

Yeah I couldnt remember when it was up, but that has got to be one of the worst contracts in baseball history.

Beltre gets my vote, but Kerry Wood has to be in the top 5. I also forgot about Kendall, another top 5 guy in my mind.

You'd have to differentiate between guys playing and not living up to contracts and guys who are injured and not living up to contracts.

 

Based on injury, I think Bagwell is the most overpaid position player and Hampton as the pitcher.

 

Guys who are playing is a fight between Manny and Beltre (at least Bonds has a .500+ OBP) right now, while Chan Ho is probably still the leading pitcher.

 

Projecting for the year, I think Garrett Anderson might have one of the worst production/salary ratios in the game.

People like Beltre and Chan who havent had that much success the except for their contract years are the ones who are the most overpaid.

The guy asked who was most overpaid this year. I answered. Sure it's early and not likely to stay the same, which is why I listed some different categories.

 

Foulke was overpaid last year, he's not in a class with Manny.
