Abreu/Stocker, Santana/Jared Nobody, and Liriano/Nathan/Guy With Ridiculous Name for Pierzynski are all really good (bad) in my eyes.

I'm sticking with Giles/Rincon. Rincon wasn't bad with the Indians, but Giles went into his prime of 5 straight years of 148+ OPS+ after the deal.

I'm sticking with mine.

Kevin Stocker: about .230/.320/.650 for D-Rays in approx. 3 years, then retired after finishing final season with Angels at age 30.

Bobby Abreu: about .305/.420/.950 234 SB for Phillies in 8 seasons with Phillies, still a star player for them. 2 time Allstar (04, 05), 1 Gold Glove (05)

Carlos Lee for Scott Podsednic and Luis Vizcaino

thats a good one but.... i think that it worked well for both,

the brewers got a good power hitter, while the white sox got a pure leadoff man that helped them to winning the world series, as for vizcaino he was OK out of the pen.

hence, not a good one

The AJ trade is my personal favorite. Great job San Fran!

I won't defend the Pods for Lee swap, but I always think of it as Pods/AJ/Iguchi/El Duque for Lee. Lee freed up some cash that was used for those three. Obviously, trading a power hitting corner outfielder for a slap hitter isn't a good idea, but it cleared cash and Ozzie pretty much begged Williams to deal him.

Yeah, all the financially motivated ones should be DQed, including this one, DLee/Choi and the Aramis trade.

Also, someone should mention Barrett for Damian Miller and cash. Its not quite on the level of Giles/Rincon or Abreu/Stocker, but its gonna look even worse in 4 years.

p.s. please post here very often. My one problem with this site has always been the lack of Sox fans. Especially rational ones

I would have to say it's:

Augie Ojeda to Cubs for Richard Negrette (BAL) 1999

just bad for the Cubs. At least BAL got some minor league roster filler. Someone actually had the audacity to promote Ojeda to a 40man roster. Just so the manager had a coffee boy.

Bobby Abreu for Kevin Stocker.

That's a pretty darned good pick.

I didn't look through the whole thread, but along these lines, how about Larry Anderson for Jeff Bagwell?

I can't remember if they were trades or what was involved. However, a long time ago we got rid of Palmeiro and Jamie Moyer. Then another one that comes to mind is Luis Gonzalez. Again I can't remember what the situations were for those. They must not have been trades or someone would have beat me to it. I kind of cringe sometimes when I see that those guys went elsewhere.

Moyer and Gonzalez are tough to call bad trades considering neither were any good until a few years after the Cubs trades them. further, Gonzalez left via free agency.

as for Palmeiro (Moyer was part of the same trade for Mitch Williams), bad trade, as are most trades for closers.

It's not a trade, but can we please make fun of the Adrian Beltre signing?

Maybe we trade them Neifi. He'd make a better starting 3B.

Scott Rolen for Polanco, Bud Smith, and Mike Timlin.

That one was bad, but not quite on par with most of the others mentioned. At least Polanco and Timlin are/were quality ballplayers.

Phillies also did not have a good bargaining position since Rolen consistently fueded with management and refused to sign a contract extension with free agency on the horizon. In essence, they knew what they were giving up and had to take players (somewhat decent players in Polanco and Timlin) who were not of Rolen's caliber to make the deal happen and get what they could before he left.

4 stolen bases though! Can't make fun of Beltre, kept him in a keeper league thinking he would rebound this year. Not a good idea. At least I picked up Melvin Mora for insurance.

Yup. He played good in his contract year and that's it. I'm surprised Aramis hasn't used Beltre's deal for leverage on his own contract.

If Beltre's deal is used as a barometer for Aramis, my calculations show he'll be due $6.3 billion under his new deal.

It looked like he was going to rebound with the way he was hitting the ball in the WBC, but he strained his hip flexor and hasn't been the same since...
