Dunn isn't a free swinger.

If he plays long enough, he'll break Reggie Jackson's all time strikeout record.

Dunn has only played 4.5 seasons and is already almost 1/3 of the way to Reggie's record. He'll definately have a shot if he doesn't get hurt but would need to average 150 a year for about 12 years to have a get the record. He'll definately shouldn't have problem getting into the top 10 or 20 though. He already has the single season strikeout record (altough Jose Hernandez would have it if his manager didn't sit him out the last week+ of the year). Personally, I would like to see Dunn go for 200 K's on the year. With 18 so far in 12 games that puts him on pace for 243 on the year. Let the Adam Dunn strikeout watch begin. In the three full seasons he has played his lowest single year total was 168.

When you have an OBP of 400, it really doesn't matter how many times you K.

I suppose. He walks a lot also. He's a freak. He played last season with a broken hand and he didn't get it fixed over the winter

Is that the metric to determine whether some one is a free swinger or not? How about look at contact rate and pitches/pa? Maybe Dunn strikes out a lot because he goes deep into counts and takes a lot of pitches? Hmmm, in 2004 and 2005 he was 5th in the league in Pitches/PA.

Free swingers don't have .400 on-base percentages. Disciplined hitters don't have 150 strikeouts per year.

I would say Dunn is a, well, I don't know what you call it.

Three true outcome hitter, imo.

Outcome 1: Dunn strikes out.

Outcome 2: Dunn walks.

Outcome 3: Dunn knocks a satellite out of orbit.

The combined likelihood of one of these three things happening during an Adam Dunn AB is probably around 95%.

sure they do, if they swing and miss at hittable pitches often.

Dunn doesn't have the bat control of bonds.

Yeah, if you're like Dunn and you strike out and walk a lot that means you take a lot of pitches and go deep into the count. That takes some discipline.

Vlad disagress with you. But then, he defines the exception.

I think the Cubs signed Corey Patterson #2 to play RF for the next 3 years.

That was stupid. I'd have given him 1-year guarenteed, w/ a team option for 2007

Considering his plate discipline/pitch recognition issues, I think Corey should holler at Brian Roberts about getting some of those magic contacts that gave him double the number of home runs he'd previously gathered over his whole career.

I still believe that if he can either fix the glaring hole in his pitch recognition or find a workaround for it if he can't, Corey will eventually become a very similar player to Torii Hunter.

I definately agree with you. My previous post wasn't meant to take a side on the debate. I just like when people go for the strikeout record. I liked it when Hernandez made a run at it and liked it when Dunn broke it. That's why I would like to see Dunn get 200 on the year. If he does, I'm not saying that he's a bad hitter. I'm not saying Dunn is a good or a bad hitter. I just want 200 K's.

You might have to wait until Wily Mo Pena is an everyday player to see the strike out record broken again. :D

Dunn always has a chance at the record. If only Jose Hernandez was playing every day they could have a strikeout-off.

I know that. But he can break his own record, which would still be considered as him breaking his own record. Let me rephrase it. Dunn always has a chance at 200 K's.

Corey Patterson went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and a walk (his first of the year) today to raise his average from .156 to .222. He's also has 1 HR and 6 RBI's this year with a .243 OBP and .333 SLG.

Sigh. Both of his RBIs with the Orioles up 5-2....the more things change, the more they stay the same.

why are you sighing? you should be delighting in his failure due to your irrational hatred for corey.

that's better.

Patterson sucks, maybe some don't agree with it but let's not rub it in. Those who think he is bad at baseball should just know they are right and move on, happy we don't have to watch him play for the Cubs anymore.

i would rather watch corey play than watch an older clone of corey play.
