I'm not sure why everyone thinks the Cubs lineup is better than the Cards. The Cardinals have better top end talent however the Cubs are a little more well rounded. I think its about a wash.

i never said the cubs' lineup was better...i'm unimpressed with both.

I don't think the Cubs lineup is better either, I just think its funny that most of the "experts" in the media think the Cardinals are going to run away with the division because their lineup is so potent. Outside of the big 3, they really are pretty weak.

Who do you think will win? The Cubs have a shot at 6 holes (depending on Murton and Pierre). Could the Astros actually have the best non-Cincinnati offense in the division? They only have 2 legit holes, and Ausmus was pretty decent last year. Biggio, Berkman, Lane, and Ensberg are solid. Tavarez could be.

yeah, i'm going w/ the astros...especially if clemens comes back. everyone rags on houston's offense, but, like you said, they have fewer glaring holes than the cubs and cards. heck, the brewers offense really only has one obvious hole.

I disagree about the Astros offense. Berkman is the only real threat there. Biggio is getting older, Ensberg has been inconsistent from year to year, Wilson is no better than Jacque or Encarnacion, Lane is still a bit unproven, Taveras has little plate discipline, Ausmus can't hit, and Everett's only skill is the sac bunt.

Agreed. The Cards big 3 is better than the Cubs big 3. I'd take Cubs other 5 vs. the Cards 5, though.

I'm just curious as to who is the 3rd of our big 3. Is it the guy who's on the bench today?

Barrett, but there's not a lot of difference.

well said - the astros offense doesn't scare me at all.

Really? The only position I see the Cubs are clearly better is C and maybe LF. Looking things over again I'd take the Cards lineup but maybe that's my bias.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Ramirez post better offensive numbers than Rolen. Walker is clearly better than what the Cards have at 2B. You already mentioned C and LF. Our RF's are equally crappy.

I was trying to decide between the two. It could always be Murton, though. Never know.

Jerome Williams is pretty big.

Yeah, Barrett.

Assume for a minute Barrett's hitting 5th....

The Cards have the edge 3-5 (Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen) over the Cubs 3-5 (Lee, Ramirez, Barrett), and actually the Cubs combo was better to a man last season. I'd take the Cubs leadoff man over the Cards. I'd take each of the Cubs 6-7-8 hitters over the Cards (hypothetically with Jones 6th).

I agree on Ramirez because Rolen has a higher bust potential. The NL Central should be exciting this year.

Good thing the Cards no longer have Ray King!

If they had King and Ponson, there'd be no room in the clubhouse for anyone else, much less enough food on the postgame spread.

As much as I hate it, I really, really, really, hope Neifi has a good day today. He has to take a few pitches if Pierre is one first, something he didn't do much of last year.
