Neifi w/ 3 hits. I thought the Cubs were supposed to lose if he played. At least thatis what you would have thought reading some posts on here.

Neifi is not THAT bad people...

Yes he is. A good game does not erase a terrible career.

My point is is that is getting a little ridiculous to see everybody freak out if he is in the starting lineup. He shouldn't be a starter, but obviously he will start some games this year.

Can we stop the NSBB PMS whenever he is starting?

People freak out because Dusty is dumb enough to keep starting him if he does well.

And that people keep freaking out that Dusty is dumb enough to put him in the 2 hole, where he should be at the 8th hole.

I'm fairly amazed that people are complaining about a guy after he goes 3-4 and the team wins.

Is he awful? Yes. Should he start? No. Should everyone relax and just enjoy the win, at least for about an HOUR after it has happened? Of course. The whole idea of sports is to have something to enjoy-can't we all just enjoy the win, complaint-free, for a little while?

Here's my pledge: I will not complain about Neifi Perez in the 24 hours after he gets more than 2 hits in a game and commits no errors in a game for the remainder of the season.

I hope I never complain about him once. If I'm wrong about Neifi and Baker, and that means the Cubs get to the WS, I'm much happier than if I'm right and we finish 4th. I'm not sure everyone feels the same.

They have played 3 games this year. Wait to see how the season plays out. Having such a small sample size is horrible when trying to make an argument.

Only when "sample size" (wrong term) is use for projections.

Carless was stating a fact, don't know if it is ture. But he wasn't projecting.

missing my point. I'm hardly a Neifi fan. He shouldn't be a full time starter. But, he isn't going to kill you either. It is comical to see people react around here when he is in the lineup.

My point was that even Neifi can have a good day. Jose Macias could be halfway decent on some days, too. So can Lenny Harris, Delino Deshields, Corey Patterson, etc.

Using him as a bench player, especially when it comes to defensive replacements, is perfectly fine in my mind. But, we all know Dusty's manlove for the guy. The possibility that Cedeno or Walker is almost always 0-11 away from getting replaced by Neifi indefinitely is one that makes me feel ill.

Yes, he could kill the team and he did so on a number of occasions last year with bad plate appearances, double plays, and so on. More often than not, that's what you'll get with him.

It's worth pointing out that people didn't start complaining after the game until someone called them out on it.

And what I think is most terrifying about it is that Neifi was batting second. Under no circumstances, ever, should Neifi bat second. That, I think, is a totally fair statement. And, of course, the fear that Dusty will continue to play him over superior players like Walker (who has also been hitting the ball very well, I should add).

Of all the games to miss!!!!

I had a feeling Maddux would be in vintage form. Good work, Professor!

Now let's hope Z can whittle down that ERA by a lot tomorrow. :D

I did not watch every game last season but Neifi Perez played well enough that I don't mind him as a bench guy who starts here and there. Of course, I did preface that statement by stating I did not see every game.

At least, I'd do him a favor and rank him above Lenny Harris, DeShields and Jose Macias.

Don't we have Marquis Grissom on the club this season? Is he washed up or does he have anything left? Tomorrow will be the first game I can actually watch, thank gawd for that!!!! 8)

Neifi is not THAT bad people...

He is only among the worst hitters in all of major league baseball since 1900. THAT IS BAD.

Today he got a bloop single on a ball that was a six inches of the ground and a lucky hop that golden boy Pujols should have stabbed.

Neifi sucks, he should never start. Ever.

Where did you come up with that stat? Since 1900? This hatred of Perez is just plain silly.

Definition of RCAA:

1. RCAA (n)

a measure of a batter's ability to contribute runs per outs made as compared to the runs contributed by a theoretical average player.

Just for kicks, here's the top 10 since 1900:'

EDIT: NL-ONLY. For the top 10 list for both leagues, see my post below.

RCAA

1 Barry Bonds 1502

2 Stan Musial 1204

3 Rogers Hornsby 1081

4 Hank Aaron 1039

5 Willie Mays 1008

6 Mel Ott 989

7 Honus Wagner 938

8 Jeff Bagwell 680

9 Joe Morgan 657

10 Eddie Mathews 652

P.S. Not that i expect you to believe this stat at all. In fact, you'll probably just ignore it and then wait for one of us young whippersnappers to make another statement you find outlandish, which you will reply to with a post like this one:

"(Insert partial quoted comment here)! Ha! That's outlandish!"

In fact, just cut and paste the above line from now on to save yourself time.

Is there a sabermetric stat that measures how many runs he saves (our extra outs he makes) over a season compared to the average fielder? Could you post at least his range factor (or some better estimation stat) compared to Walker's or something if you have it? I seriously doubt he saves enough runs over the average fielder to excuse that RCAA...

Welcome!

While not flawlessly accurate, BRAA(Batting Runs Above Average) and FRAA(Fielding Runs Above Average) do a decent enough job for what you're looking for.

In Neifi's career....

Adjusted for Season

BRAA: -221

FRAA: 103

Net: -118

Adjusted for All-Time

BRAA: -219

FRAA: 94

Net: -125
