Freel never stopped moving toward home and was way too far from 3B - Cedeno should have got him in a rundown. I still want him starting at SS everyday though.

Never stopped moving toward home? Hey stopped, and made a feint move back to 3rd, which I'm guessing is when Ronny looked over.

Oh well, like most little things like this, it had no repercussion on the game itself.

Every loss is disappointing. I imagine we'll have quite a few victory parties as well. Hopefully, they will well outnumber the disappointments.

I only saw the replay once but I swear Freel did not move an inch back toward 3rd.

I'm glad Ronny learned something today. It hurt the team but it's only the 2nd game. They'll need him to be headsup in the future.

In actuality, it didn't hurt the team since the Cubs didn't score in the 9th.

Ken

It hurt from the standpoint that a run scored.

It is only the second game of the season but neither Cub starter made it through the 5th inning this series. That was one of the many problems the Cubs had last season, high pitch counts vs. too few innings pitched, thus constantly straining the bullpen.

Let' s hope the starters make it into the second half of the game against the Cards or it could be a long weekend for the Cubs.

I agree not a good two games by either pitchers.

He took several steps, had Ronny thrown to third Freel would've been safe at third.

Jones sucks, I know its only 2 games but he's looked clueless at the plate. I give Hendry credit where it is due, but signing Jones to a 3 year contract is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I'd rather have Rob Mackodsfgodsagoiak out there in RF, and what did the Sox give up for him, a reliever in decline?

15 runs in 2 games for our pitchers is not that good..but it's the first 2 games of the season and it came in a hitters park. I'm not going to lie and say that I'm not worried about our pitchers, but it is early...let's take 2 of 3 from the Cards.

The Cubs have yet to win a remaining game in the opening series after scoring 15+ runs on Opening Day. :x

Let me remind you that in 2003 against the Mets in which the Cubs clobbered the Mets 15-2 on Opening Day (Corey went 4-6 w/ 2 hrs and 7 rbis, I believe). They lost to Al Leiter the next day, but on the series finale the Cubs beat Trax 6-3. So yes, the Cubs have won a "remaining game in the series after scoring 15+ runs on Opening Day."

I get back from class and we're down 1, the difference being a BRONSON ARROYO home run??? We need new pitchers.

The Cubs need to do a better job at pich selection. Glendon should not be re-signed (I know that was a d'uh) and Williams won't finish the yr as a Cubs. But until then, the Cubs have to find out who will step up and who needs to ship out.

It hurt nothing. The Cubs were losing when that play happened, and the Cubs lost even if he nails Freel for leaning too far.

It's a play that has split second decisions. If Cedeno winces because Freel doesn't "obviously" head back to 3rd, the runner will be safe at 1st and then people will rail him for that.

It's a situation where speed helped Cincinnati score that run. It's going to happen from time to time. I don't look at it as a rookie mistake in the slightest. A veteran could have allowed that to happen just as easily.

Gimme a break guys! Ronny didn't lose the game. Rusch giving up a homer to Arroyo. Barrett giving up a run on a pass ball. Williams pitching in slow motion. Etc...It's a team loss guys...

I disagree. A run scored. Just because the Cubs lost this game doesn't mean a similar situtation won't come up in the future. Now he knows guys will try to run after a quick look.

Jones sucks, but he hasn't looked clueless at the plate ALL the time. For the at-bats I saw in the first game 1) he went oppo on a soft liner fudged by Dunn 2) He went oppo to the warning track on another drive and Today he hit it on the button to 2nd bace. 3 pretty good AB's.

He still sucks, he never should have gotten a 3 year deal, and he sucks donkey balls, but his AB's have not been ALL clueless.

We must have seen different plays.

C'mon people. One of those pitchers was Carlos Zambrano. He'll have a low 3's ERA when all is said and done. I'm not worried about Zambrano, because he's one of the best pitchers in this league. I'm not worried about Rusch, because he sucks.

He misses pitches by a very wide margin.

It's no different than Aramis letting Dunn get to 3rd on the groundout. Acutally Aramis play was worse, fortunatly Dunn didn't score. Ronny looked good at the plate today, and he is normally pretty good with the glove.

I didnt get a chance to watch the game today, but from what i heard Mike Barrett played like garbage. As a catcher your job is to catch the ball, block the ball and call a game. Boy do i wish the Cubs still had Damian Miller.
