I thought for sure that homer was going to turn the game around. And it did, at least for a little while. But the Marlins kept chipping away and the Cubs couldn't answer.

Rats.

Here here. I was throwing a major tantrum before he hit the HR, and then I started to think the momentum had shifted....

That's a great clip, if I forget what happened in that game later. Wrigley has to be one of the best environments for post season baseball. (Although it doesn't happen that often) Edited by hawkcub

THAT BROUGHT ME TO TEARS

MAN..TO HAVE THE LAST 3 INNINGS OF THAT GAME BACK..

THAT WAS ACTUALLY A GOOD AT BAT FOR ANY HITTER, NOT TO MENTION KERRY

Me too (and I'm not the crying type)! I was so happy when he hit that homer and soooo depressed later that evening...

If the Cubs win that game, Kerry becomes a demigod in Chicago and no one cares that he's never been reliably healthy since. I'm certain of this.

Watching that crowd makes me sick to my stomach thinking about what might have been and what we've put up with for the past two years.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I still love him. He didn't pitch well in that game but without his dominance, for much of 2003, the Cubs wouldn't have gotten to the postseason much less the NLCS.

Agreed. That crowd was so jacked up when he hit that. I thought for sure the game was going to the Cubs after that. I'll never forget Len Kasper saying that Wood's home run was the loudest crowd he's ever heard. Now excuse me while I go puke for a moment.

Uh, Kasper wasn't around back then.

I still always think about Kerry's fielding of a comebacker behind the back in game 1 of the NLDS whenever I see a ball go back up the middle. That whole playoff trip was filled with magic and it definitely felt like they were going all the way. Go Cubs! Get back there this year please!

That homer didn't do much for me when he hit it.

I was still pissed about game 6, and I knew we'd find a way to blow it in Game 7. The Cubs are a team that just doesn't recover from a loss like Game 6.

The Cubs could have been up 15-0 going into the 9th inning and I still would have been convinced we'd have blown it.

I have a very ugly pessimist that comes out sometimes. I think of him as my alter-ego.

A truly great home run that had me screaming and jumping up and down when it occured. But it now reminds me of the amazing John Starks dunk on the Bulls in the playoffs that one year. Because the end result of the series was a big fat L.

I'm eternally optimistic until the first pitch is thrown. From then on I am waiting for the inevitable double plays with the bases loaded, strikeouts with a man on third with less than 2 outs, bullpen collapses, etc.

Agreed. He is my favorite Cubs player to watch play. He did so many great things in that short playoff run. Whenever he takes the mound there is a chance for greatness. I really hope he can get healthy this year. I'm fearful that the Cubs are going to have to let him go after this year. I think seeing him pitch for another team will make my stomach turn.
