In today's Trib Phil Rogers says Prior is starting slowly because of a "mysterious, fatiguing illness"?!?

Anyone know what this is about? (sorry if it's being discussed elsewhere)

Prior was talking about in some article a couple days ago. Basically, he got really sick in the off-season and didn't do anything for a couple of weeks.

It was probably nothing than the flu. But as anyone who's gotten the flu knows, it takes FOREVER some times to kick it completely.

Nothing to worry about. Prior just needs to build up his strength and stamina gradually.

Sounds like a fun way to kick off spring training!

Are we due for the 2006 Injury Update Thread?

I'm not touching that this year for fear of being lynched by this board

It's just the media doing their normal making something out of nothing. Sensationalism is their profession.

No, not all of the media's.

About 95% of it (or more)...

Apparently we can blame California:

Cubs.com[/url]"]MESA, Ariz. -- Mark Prior had yet to throw a bullpen session after three days in the Chicago Cubs camp, but the delay has nothing to do with his elbow, shoulder or any other part of his arm.

Prior is behind the other pitchers, workout-wise, because he was sick at the end of December and knocked out for about two weeks. How sick? He had to go to the emergency room at his local hospital.

"One morning, I woke up and I couldn't swallow or breathe very well, so that's why they rushed me to the [emergency room], and I had a CAT scan and stuff," Prior said Saturday.

"At this point, we're taking it slow," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said. "We're trying to get him on a course and program to be ready for his start Opening Day. We don't know if he'll be second or third on the list, but we're trying to get him ready."

.................

Prior was sidelined with a respiratory infection that was unfortunately very popular in California this winter.

"I'm just behind," Prior said of his spring workouts. "I think this year we're going to have more of a structured throwing program. As of right now, April 3, I expect to be in Cincinnati."

Here we go again

Next on the docket: Woody not ready until July....then August....then never.

Ramirez's hammies snap again.

Neifi healthy as a horse and starting.

I definitely read that as "Rammie's Hammies" and laughed aloud.

so, prior was hospitalized in december and this is the first we are hearing about it?

Funny you said that----it's the first thing I thought as well.

Doesn't anyone here think maybe we would have heard if the golden boy hit the emergency room?

If I were Prior, I wouldn't want to tell the media that I had to go to the emergency room during the off-season for a respiratory infection. I don't see why he would give the Cubs the consent to release that information.

I think this year we're going to have more of a structured throwing program.

Was it unstructured before? I'd kill to see what type of throwing program they were under beforehand.
