What's the story behind the beaning? I wasnt much into baseball then. Did it mess up his hand-eye cordination?

sosa's not willing to humiliate himself? really? i think that ship has sailed.

Couldn't agree with you more, abuck. I know this ending saddens many Cub fans, but I won't be joining the pity party. His considerable skills were matched only by a considerable ego and considerable questions about the legitimacy of his HOF numbers and the body that produced them.

Adios, Sammy. No one will miss you more than, well, you.

Solomon Torres of Pittsburgh nailed him in the head with a fastball. The ball shattered the area of his helmet around the earflap into little pieces. After that, he stood so far off the plate that he was a different area code.

Sad to see it end this way. It would be fun to see Sosa go for his #600 in a Cubs uniform. If come end of Feb and Sosa still has no team would he be humble and come back? With Baker his backer as a new Sosa attitude maybe back on his side? I am betting this will be a Phil Rogers article.

Why dont we just leave right field empty and get Derrek Lee some moon boots so he can catch anything going that direction?

I think an empty RF has a shot at a higher VORP than Jones might end up at.

So long, Sammy. At least I'll miss you. And I'll always cherish the ball you signed for me in 2000 in Milwaukee. I hope to give it to my future son one day.

Thank you for everything. It's a shame that some of your prime years were surrounded by such horrid teams.

Edited the Title to reflect the current situation.

Such a sad, sad way to end it. Thanks for the good memories Slammin Sammy, and no-thanks for the tarnished memories.

Is Sosa playing for the DR in the WBC? If he is, maybe he is counting on improved performance this Spring to generate more interest and a guaranteed deal.....

He's on their provisional roster, but given their other outfield options I'm not so sure he'll make the final cut.

Well, If this is indeed the end, So long sammy...

This is back from when he got traded, but still appropriate.

I still really hope he can catch on somewhere and get his 600th.
