he had 3 or 4 GW homers that i recall.

I enjoyed watching him tear it up in '03.

I was so pissed when he got injured that year.

I'd have to say the HR he hit in the 15th (I think) to win in Milwaukee was my favorite.

Of course, that inning also represents the peak of Todd Wellemeyer's career.

Wasn't that the same game that Prior had like 15 or 16 K's, only to be let down by the Cubs offense?

Obscure, and maybe a little incorrect, but I remember there was like a 2-3 week span where teams(Pirates and Astros especially) kept bringing in LOOGY's to face Patterson, despite his splits for the year('04). Seemed like he hit every one of them down the line for a double.

That catch in Cincy this year was pretty amazing as well.

August of 2004... Started the month off by getting on base for Nomar's first Cubs AB. He had a spectacular month, getting 40 hits, and hitting .340 I believe.

Apparently no team in baseball thought so.

Nope. The Corey 15th inning HR in Milwaukee (May 15, 2003) was the day that Woody had am impressive start. He went 7 innings without giving up a run, struck out 13 and didn't get the win. Alfonseca blew it, giving up a solo hr to Scott Podsednik.

The Prior 16-K game was June 26, 2003. Prior struck out 16 in 8 innings, but borowski gave up 3 in the top of the 9th.

The Corey moment I most remember is him hitting a GW home run against either Pittsburgh or Montreal in 2004(I think it was Montreal), and Baker yanking him aside to call him out on the field, about 10 seconds after crossing home.

That moment sums up Corey's Cub career in a nutshell.

my favorite is definitely opening day 2004.

I don't remember anything notable about Corey in opening day '04, but he had a monster game opening day '03 against the Mets. 7 RBIs 2 HRs?

Is that the game you're thinking of Tree?

well he did homer during his first atbat on opening day in 2004. Gave people hope he was fully healthy and ready to put up a year like 2003.

But yeah, opening day 2003 @ New York was probably the best day of his life.

opening day 2004 was better for me because i expected so much for the team in general, and then corey showed up and made me think that he was going to be amazing this year.

Same here. I was reading the infamous SI "Hell Freezes Over" issue during that game, and watching Corey's performance made me think that maybe the temperature was dropping down there a little bit.

Side note: Kerry Wood is, of course, the only holdover from the 1998 team. CPatt was the last holdover from the 2000 team (except for Wood).

The player with the most seniority now besides Wood? Big Z, who had a rather inauspicious 2001 debut: 11 hits, 13 ER in 7 2/3 innings.

The position player with the most seniority is now ARam with just 2 1/2 years tenure.

Not only did he hit the game winner, he also hit the game tieing HR that game, he was the entire offense that day.

The HR against Milwaukee was great.

The walkoff when Dusty had a talking to him.

The catch to rob Griffey in Cincy.

Opening day 2003.

But my favorite Corey Patterson times are when it seemed like he finally turned the corner. May-June 2003, when he seemingly became a 1-man show. He was getting big hits, hitting 3rd in the lineup, and looked to be on his way to fulfilling his promise before the knee injury.

And in August 04. He looked like he was finally gonna be a leadoff hitter like the Cubs wanted, killing the baseball hitting ahead of Nomar. I thought the Cubs had a legit shot at the WS at the end of that month.

My favorite moment was when Corey hit a game-winning homerun and then got a lecture from Dusty 10 seconds later. Pretty much sums up half of the problems Corey had.

his inside the park homerun that rolled under the mats in right field. that summed up his skills pretty well.

The one early in his career? Silly J.D. Drew. That's certainly up there on my list.

My favorite moment, though, would be when he hit the wind-blown game-tying HR late in a game against the Pirates and then the walkoff HR in the 12th inning in mid-September of 2004. That was incredible.

I was there for that game. Great game. That one's definitely up there.
