Why on God's green earth did you let Wood pitch for 37 days including the day before his surgery, saying it wouldn't affect his return this season, and now say he might not be ready to start?

Why didn't we hear more about you going for Giles, instead of getting stuck with Jones (edit)?

Why didn't Milton Bradley pan out for the Cubs

Why are you so hell bent on trading our 3rd best offensive player?

Why would you resign Rusch and Neifi for 5 million a piece (then cite all the other better deals out there)?

Why would you give so much up for a one-year rental (Pierre)?

Any others?

If none of the other questions get asked, I want this one to. It would be fun to hear him dodge and tiptoe around the question.

Where's Tree? I have to give him his script for the Peoria Caravan stop...

Can all of these be on it? Especially the first one, which I'm most pissed off about.

That's a big section of it. It's designed to get him thrown out at the very least. Suffice to say it's a pretty harsh question.

Why don't the Cubs value OBP more as an offensive stat? [ i'm sure he'll be able to doubletalk his way out of that -- maybe somone can recast it in a more clever or subtle way]

Dusty is not exactly known to be fond of platooning players - do you see 2006 as a year he'll have to adjust his thinking on that?

Other questions:

1. What was the rush to sign Eyre and Howry, setting a very high market for relievers, when we already had Dempster, Williamson, Wuertz, Ohman and Novoa. You'd think this money could have been used to go after Furcal and Giles.

2. If Furcal was the number one target, why didn't we give him the $50-$55 mil. over 5 years it would have taken to sign him.

3. Why pick up Walkers option if you just wanted to get rid of him. Did we over-estimate what Walker might bring in a trade.

4. Why tender Patterson a contract when we could be stuck with his salary or just receive a PTBNL in return.

5. When we could have had Burnitz at 1 year and $6 mil or Wilson at 1 year and $4.5 mil. why in the world would we sign Jacques Jones for 3 years and $16 mil.

1) Since the Cubs apparently covet Tejada so much, why didn't you just sign him as a free agent two years ago instead of now having to offer stud pitchers and valuable propects?

2) The Cubs were purchased for approx. $20 million in 1981. The current market value of the team has been appraised at $550 million (a 23 fold increase in 24 years). The team's incredibly loyal fan base has supported the team with record attendance year after year which has allowed the team to post record profits year after year. Yet the team has never once signed a TIER 1 free agent and it's current budget is less than that of the team from the Southside who's fairweather fanbase has supported that team to a much lesser degree.

Please explain.

All kidding aside, I would love to hear the response to this question.

Did your mother have any children that lived?

Did you fall and hit your head after the 2003 NLCS? If not what explains what's been going on in your head since then?

Have you ever had any players that "couldn't" catch the ball?

Will Cedeno & Murton get significant playing time this year? In your opinion, have they proven enough to be legit starting position players in this league? or should we expect them to be more in a platoon situation?

In order to claim my cash reward, Tree can select any of the following questions:

Jim,

Given that there are reports that it is likely that Kerry Wood will not be ready for opening day due to rehab on his shoulder, please justify your decision to allow Kerry to pitch out of the bullpen for nearly 1 month before electing surgery, when it was obvious that at the time a setup man was not going to puch the Cubs into contention. That decision may cost him a month of 2006, and Cub fans everywhere have a right to know why you would risk an already injured pitcher when there was no upside to that risk.

Jim,

Please explain why a multi year contract was given to Neifi Perez when he produced a sub .300 OBP in 572 AB's. Given that the Cubs had Ronny Cedeno, Todd Walker and Jerry Hairston under their control, what was the pressing need to retain Perez for double his market value for 2 years?

Jim,

As a former farm system director, please explain why Ronny Cedeno was called up for 10 days to not play in favor of Enrique Wilson in June. Given you managers track record with regularly playing young position players, do you feel your farm system is irrelevant at this point?

Jim,

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to see it, why haven't you fired Dusty Baker despite 2 underachieving seasons in a row?

Jim,

Coming into the 2006 season, your stated goal was to find guys that could "catch the ball". However, our team OBP is still below average, and the offense as a whole is not improved, despite giving long term contracts to mediocre offensive players like Jones and Perez. Please give your organizational offensive philosiphy.

I have more, but that should be a good start.

I would love to get the answer to all of these... geeez, when you write them out like that, it makes me even more depressed going into this season. All I can think is they are hoping for 'catching lightning in a bottle again' or something - for we have had no plan. Oh, I'm sorry, we do have Pierre (at great cost).

Jim , In your opinion what is the best Dunkin doughnut??. Does each one put you in a different mood? What mood were you in when you re-signed perez and got Jock? Whatever doughnuts you ate those days can you ask dunkin to ban the sale of them forever?, many thanks.

Jim if you think i've gone mad now just wait until i've watched this team you've built play for 162 games, I'm just going to be Goo-Goo Gaa-Gaa!!!!

No new questions to include at this juncture, but I might suggest changing the OBP questions to say "On Base Percentage" since I am not sure Hendry will know what you are referring to if you just say OBP.

Jim, we talked at a Jaxx game in 2005. At that game, you gave me your e-mail address and said you'd love to do a Q & A with northsidebaseball.com

After sending multiple e-mails, you never responded. What's up with that?
