You guys/gals must be seeing some substance there I'm not. A team saying they haven't had any offers worth taking is a common way of saying they want better offers. There's no denial of interest in trading him, just that they haven't seen what they want yet.

Bingo.

Its akin to Hendry's comments that he expected Sosa tp be the Cub's RF in 2005.

The problem I fear is that Hendry is out of Angelos' league when it comes to these talks. I think it is safe to assume that MacPhail is largely hands off while it is likely that Angelos would be front and center with such a high profile matter. If so, I have little confidence that Hendry will keep his Tommy Bahama.

Time to offer Pie, Hill, and Williams for Dunn.

Problem is, the Reds are going to want Mark Prior. I can hear them saying, "You offered him up for Tejada, you can offer him now."

Very true.

From Fox Sports:

"There is absolutely no deal we find acceptable to trade this very special player to another team," an Orioles official said.

Through the BS filter sounds something like:

"The Cubs were not really offering Prior, but we liked the sound of it so much we've dedided that's our minimum price. Anyone with an offer of a #1 starter and solid, ML ready P prospects can have him."

Also, let's not forget what happened to ARod shortly after he "cleared the air" with Ranger management about wanting traded. There was a big news conference with ARod, Showalter and Hicks in tuxedos, making nice and naming ARod captain.

Next thing you know, ARod is in pinstripes, slapping at balls and seeing a shrink.

If Prior for Tejada isn't good enough for them, then these things must inexorably be true:

1) They vastly overrate Tejada's value

2) They don't really care whether they have a disgruntled player in the locker room or not

3) Tejada won't be traded because they'll never get better value for him than Prior.

Posted
I'd still guess that Tejada gets moved, though it may take a while.

I'd hope that Hendry keeps testing the waters. I've explained why I don't want Prior (or Z) as part of any trade.

But under most other circumstances, I'd love to see Tejada in a Cubs uni. :)

Yea, I'm thinking this is going to be Sosa-like and drag out untill February. I'm just hoping Prior and Z stay put.

I put my money on Anaheim getting him.

I'd agree with Anaheim being the favorite, they have the best prospects both quality and quantity, to either deal prospects to Baltimore or deal major league players to Baltimore and then replace those players with the prospects.

Here's what was posted on ESPN's rumors yesterday. Sorry if it's been posted elsewhere:

Tejada to Boston?

Dec 28 - The Orioles are seriously weighing a proposal from the Red Sox of Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement for Miguel Tejada, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports.

Baltimore will weigh other discussions --Philadelphia, the White Sox and Houston are also in on Tejada -- and decide early next week which way to go.

They want a star in return for Tejada. Ramirez is better suited for Camden Yards. Tejada's agents are pushing for Boston so he can be united with good friend David Ortiz.

So far, no one has met the Orioles' asking price for Tejada, The Baltimore Sun reports. The Cubs are offering a package that includes right-handed pitcher Mark Prior. Baltimore would prefer Carlos Zambrano because of Prior's recent history of elbow troubles.

The Cubs reportedly want left-hander Erik Bedard in the deal, but won't include top outfield prospect Felix Pie.

Cubs second baseman Todd Walker, center fielder Corey Patterson and pitcher Rich Hill have also been mentioned in a deal.

Wasn't Baltimore a player for Clement in the past? If so, this may work.

Also, it's possible that the Red Sox might be tempted to move Tejada to the Cubs for a package that Baltimore refused.

Here's the follow up:

Some hurdles to clear

Dec 29 - The Red Sox have offered Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement to the Orioles for shortstop Miguel Tejada, but there are several possible deal killers, The Boston Globe reports.

Balimore is largely opposed to dealing Tejada to an AL East team, Ramirez and Clement are owed approximately $22 million more in guaranteed money than Tejada and Ramirez would have to approve a move to Baltimore.

I thought Manny already said he was ok with going to Baltimore?

Also, if this move did happen would it cause a logjam in the OF for the O's?

I remember there were rumblings Manny would go there but nothing definitive.

I don't know if there would be a log jam but however they could add Burnitz to help off set salaries.

Burnitz can't be traded until June 15th since he was a free agent. I think Baltimore would be making out ok in this deal.

I'd like to know why the Orioles would be opposed to trading Tejada to an AL East team when they would be getting a player in return that can do more damage with a bat than Tejada can. (Manny).

Organizational emotion? Money? A belief he'll have a shaper decline than Miggy? Manny is a headache until a few weeks ago Tejada wasn't?

Baltimore should make the deal with Boston and see if they can get Boston to pick up some of Clement's contract.

They could then trade Clement to a pitching starved team.

If I were them, I'd also turn around and trade Ramirez for Milledge and a pitcher.

Looks like he's out after all...

"If the Orioles don't do anything, I want them to trade me because I am tired of losing,'' Tejada said before a winter league game.

If he isn't traded by the Orioles, Tejada said he would "respect the game as I have always done.''

"I am not asking for a team of superstars, I only want a good group that helps me to win,'' he said.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Disgruntled shortstop Miguel Tejada is "more upset'' with the Baltimore Orioles because they haven't gotten stronger in the offseason than with the team not fulfilling his trade request.

Ugh. Maybe the more he complains the less it will take to get him. Probably not. I would love to have him, but not for Prior or Z. If I'm Hendry I offer Hill, Williams, Walker, Patterson and start working on Plan "B".

I'm only thinking out loud here. Some of the statements made by the O's makes me think Prior wasn't really the main trade bait by Hendry and using Prior to get a trade talk going? Or is it the O's are worried about Prior's health. Forgive me if some of this has been talked about in other threads. But I don't get in here as much as I'd like to. Something in the back of my head says its another Hendry trick to keep the O's at the table. I have a hard time believing that Hendry would throw Prior's name out without talking to him first. At least I'd hope he would.

First thought: Just keep on talking Miguel. You're trade value is going down more and more everytime you openly complain.

Second thought: Crap. Here we go again. Next we'll see in the Trib that Prior for Tejada is on the table again. [-X
