The Astros are looking at Abreu as we sign Jacque Jones. That right there tells you all you need to know about Hendry.

Abreu gets traded to Houston, we trade Walker and start Perez and then people will wonder what exactly went wrong. It's the philosophy of the entire organization that is the problem.

Who wants to march on Wrigley with Fire Hendry signs?

Start a campaign similar to the one in Detroit about Millen. :)

Personally, I want to organize a day where we get as many people as possible to not buy tickets to one game as a protest...anyone interested in joining me? I can print out flyers at Kinkos for free

I got shotgun in CPatterson20's ride.

Start a thread on the front of baseball discussions, I'll do my part.

I'm already bankrolling Tree's guerrilla hijacking of a Caravan Q&A. You know I'm in.

In order for the Cubs to become successful, they need to be sold and have the eniter front office, starting at the top, all the way to the bottom, cleared. Nobody promoted, nobody kept, not even the clerks. As long as the Tribune controls the Cubs, they will continue to hire piss poor baseball people in favor of business men.

But hey, they still get paid.

THE CUBS SIGNED JONES!!!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Who knows, it might work out just fine. (I'm just glad he's not a Cardinal)

Have you're fun but don't forget you guys will have "JRod" and So running around the OF. :D

Do you think the cubs have any chance of finishing ahead of the cards?

Cubs will be lucky to finish 3rd in the division. Seriously.

Where does the other about $15 million go? You think the Tribsters will actually pocket it?

There's less than that left.

No there's 15 million left.

Is a manager's salary included in the team's payroll?

Badhops and injuries....that's the reason, badhops and injuries.

FYI: The Cubs lost a 2nd round pick

How do you feel about Hendry now?

If his numbers revert back to or close to his 02-03 seasons, I'm fine with the signing. If he contniues to hit like he did in 04-05, not so much. However, He is an outstanding defensive OF. I'll wait & see how it works out. Unlike most people here, I feel he is an upgrade over Patterson & Burnitz.

I'm not on the Jim Hendry hate bandwgn. Some forget about some of his moves in the past (in my opinion, are good ones): Ramirez,Lee,Zambrano,Prior,Pierre,Walker,Murton among others.

I'm in a wait n see mode!

They will be lucky to finish 5th.

Yeah, I like this signing. This way, by the end of the season, hopefully MacPhail, Hendry, and Dusty will be gone and the Cubs will be at rock bottom, forcing the Tribune to do something or be torched by angry Cubs fans.

Totally agree. We won't go anywhere with MacPhail and the other losers at the top.

A Panic signing if there ever was one. Hendry must be feeling some heat to win this year at all costs..........even if it jeopardizes the future.

He may look at it as "if i don't win now.........there is no 'next year'"

Jacques Jones for 3 years..............wow.

I think you're right. He's trying to save his own job at the expense of the team.

Sad.

Interestingly enough, this didn't bother me one bit. We officially deserve to be laughed at.

Is it too late to offer Brian Giles 20m a year?

Did they? I thought that pick was already gone since they signed Howry and Eyre, who were both Type A FAs. This should have lost them their 3rd rounder.

Not that that makes this much better...

edit: I thought MN didn't offer him arbitration, although I could be mistaken. If they didn't, then they haven't lost any more picks.

3 years for Jacque Jones? Who the heck was he bidding against, himself?

KC, and thanks to Dusty's wonderful skills, he only had to pay $1m more than the Royals offered.

So have we officially overpaid everyone we've signed? Exactly what good is Dusty Baker at this point? Because anyone could fill out a lineup card and rattle off cliches.

My apologies in advance because I don't wish to spoil your optimism, but......

1 week old spoiled milk is an upgrade over 1 month old spoiled milk. Either way, it's still rotten.

sure he is, but big deal. do you think the difference between 4th place and 1st place is the difference between burnitz and jones?

this just proves what many have been saying all off-season. hendry honestly believes that the '05 team, which was a disaster, needed only minor tinkering to contend in '06. a leadoff hitter, two bullpen guys, john mabry and a slight upgrade over burnitz is all he thought the '05 team was lacking.

Haha. We had to outbid the freakin Royals. How sad is that? I hate this organization.

FYI: The Cubs lost a 2nd round pick

Actually they just lost their 4th round pick. The 2nd round pick was lost long ago when the Cubs sign Scott Eyre.

Technically you're both right.

Twins get Cubs' 2nd round pick for Jones

Indians get Cubs' 3rd round pick for Howry

Giants get Cubs' 4th round pick for Eyre

The Cubs' 1st round pick was protected so they've still got that. The Cubs haven't received and won't receive any compensation picks themselves, because they didn't offer arbitration to any of their departing free agents.

So we'll pick in the 1st round and next in the 5th.

Great.

According to WGN radio, the Cardinals were also offering 3 years.
