it's entirely conceviable that we'll have all of two starters with an obp over 350 next year. the upside seems like 5, at best.

A Panic signing if there ever was one. Hendry must be filling some heat to win this year at all costs..........even if it jeopardizes the future.

He may look at it as "if i don't win now.........there is no 'next year'"

Jacques Jones for 3 years..............wow.

Jacque Jones isn't going to win you anything. This is a pure panic move because Hendry doesn't seem to understand the concept of there being a next year. He seems to work from year to year without worrying about the future.

You know how much I like posting here.

You know how much I respect the fans here.

You know that in a little way it hurts me to do this.

THE CUBS SIGNED JONES!!!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Who knows, it might work out just fine. (I'm just glad he's not a Cardinal)

Have you're fun but don't forget you guys will have "JRod" and So running around the OF. :D

So we're 10 pages in, and it still sucks.

Seriously, this Cubs Covention is going to look like a Scott McLellan press briefing at this rate. I wouldn't be shocked if they can the Q&A.

Haha. He took the Cubs' biggest weakness, OBP, and made it worse. We would have been better off with Burnitz in RF. He at least takes a walk now and then.

oh no, murton's gonna put up a .400 obp. cedeno will hit .340. they did it last year, what makes you think they can't do it next year?

Three year deal! What the hell is the matter with Hendry?

This is freaking ridiculous.

I don't think it is. Now Hendry has several options:

1. He can trade Pie as part of a deal for Tejada and have all three OF positions set.

2. He can platoon Jones and Murton if Pie is playing for the Cubs in 2007.

3. He can platoon Jones and Hairston or another rightie this year.

Please tell me you're joking? A platoon of Jones and Hairston? Yeah, that will produce some massive offensive numbers...

Not ideal, admittedly, but against LHP Murton is much more of a power bat, and Hairston could bat 2nd against LHP. Jones has some very good numbers when facing RHP, which some on this board overlook.

Who wants to march on Wrigley with Fire Hendry signs?

I think we should take a page from Detroit Lion fans. Start a "Fire Hendry" march for opening day and wear cardinal shirts throughout the season. Stupid Cubs.

They aren't "very good", they're barely acceptable for a corner OF.

You don't sign platoon corner OF's to 3 year, $16m contracts. You don't give Baker any extra reason to sit Murton.

If that's the best shot of optimism that's out there, then this offseason is pretty much shot.

Jacque Jones doesn't help us win this year...not next....not the year after.

I can live with the win now if it brings in a player that actually will help you win now. Had we given Giles a 3/55 contract that could cripple us in year 2 or 3 then I'd say that was a "win now" move. This is just three years of outfield suckage.

Can you show me somewhere in Jones' stats that back up this claim because I sure don't see it.

Start a campaign similar to the one in Detroit about Millen. :)

Personally, I want to organize a day where we get as many people as possible to not buy tickets to one game as a protest...anyone interested in joining me? I can print out flyers at Kinkos for free

FYI: The Cubs lost a 2nd round pick

How do you feel about Hendry now?

That he makes the Cubs suck now AND in the future.

Actually they just lost their 4th round pick. The 2nd round pick was lost long ago when the Cubs sign Scott Eyre.

So the Chubbs just cannot sign anyone in free agency huh?

My theory more than ever has come to fruition. Hendry will only sign "set-up" men to top dollar free agent contracts. He will not sign top-tier free agents. He didn't even offer Furcal the guy who he was sweating all off-season 10mil per. MacPhail, Hendry, and Baker need to be fired in order for us to become successful.

ESPN 1000 just said it's a 3-year deal worth $16 million. I'm seriously thinking about switching favorite teams.

OMG, I'm eating crow on this as I said I didn't think he would sign today. The radio report said he's pending a physical. OMG!

There's still hope. Anyone have Tonya Harding's number?

I've been a staunch supporter of Hendry. No more. This is absolutely pathetic. I would have rather resigned Burnitz for one more year. We could have traded for Mackowiack or Wilson from Pitt for peanuts and just kept them for one year.

3 years for Jacque Jones? Who the heck was he bidding against, himself? We won't pursue the next Vlad to hit the FA market the next two years because we have RF filled already.

Someone used to have a signature that said "Optimists see the glass as half-full, pessimists see it as half-empty. Cubs fans are asking when it's going to overflow." That was me before. Now, I'm wondering when the liquid in the glass is going to turn to acid and burn a hole in the bottom. Hendry must go.
