Bradley's wasted in RF, imho. His value to a team over the average player is in CF, not in RF. He's hurt often, has issues, not a good fit for the Cubs at all in RF. Wilkerson had one good year in 2004. Huff's decline last year is a bit disturbing but he's got the right resume.

We need a big hoss with a good eye who can knock people in, not a statue defensively, a guy who can hit 25 HRs, and take base-clogging walks, since Pierre/Cedeno/Murton aren't going to be big power guys.

Is there anyone at all who fits those parameters and is available?

I'll take any of the 3 (or all of them, preferably :jocolor: :afro: )

Unfortunately, I think it will be Preston Wilson.

Talk about underappreciated, what I wouldn't have to get Moises Alou production out of our RF this year.

My dream OF was Murton, Bradley, Wilkerson.

Obviously that isn't happening. And that SUCKS.

Odd, my dream OF doesn't have any of those guys.

I would doubt Daniels would refuse to have a conversation about Wilk, with that crowded OF he has. He saw a great opportunity and jumped at it, but that doesn't mean he won't turn around an deal him for a lot more than Sori was worth.

He could be ordered to platoon him at worst. And when neifi gets hurt (it has to happen, the dude's too small) Cedeno will take over and post large numbers.

You know Neifi's six feet tall and fairly rotund, right?

The RF solution is....Sammy Sosa.....Just kidding. No, but seriously it may be....either Kevin Mench, Craig Wilson, and Jonny Gomes (heck the Drays lost his brother to the Padres). I know Hendry wants a lefty, but I doubt he lands a LEFTY power-hitting RFer.

How about a Wilson/Nixon platoon?

I still think there's a chance Hendry will trade for Jay Gibbons, and bat him against righties. He seems more available than Nixon, and had decent stats (.864 OPS) against right-handed pitching. In a vacuum, the idea of hitting Craig Wilson against lefties makes a lot of sense, but considering he made $3M last year, I don't know if it makes financial sense to pay a guy that much for 150 at bats.

sounds like the phillies might sign looper leaving the rangers still needing a starter & a bullpen guy. perhaps wuretz & williams could be traded for wilkerson and jj can go to kc where he belongs.

The Cubs have far too much money not to do something more interesting.

You're absolutely right. The lineup proposed in this thread is significantly under Hendry's budget.

But not beneath his intelligence.

I would rather sign Jacque Jones than trade Jerome Williams AND Michael Wuertz for Brad Wilkerson.

Too small? Neifi's built like a brick s$&% house. He has to be from haulin that gargantuan cranium about.

Sounds like the Rangers pricetag on Wilkerson and Mench is pretty steep. Rotoworld:

Kevin Mench - OF - Rangers

Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said Monday that trade talks with the Rangers regarding Kevin Mench and Brad Wilkerson had stalled.

"We're not going to be getting either of them," Ricciardi said. "The price is too steep. I think it's extremely tough for us to get one of them at this point." The Rangers have too many outfielders at the moment, so the price could fall later on. Ricciardi would prefer to get Wilkerson, but Mench is the better bet of the two to be dealt. Add Jay Payton to the list of possibilities. Yippee.

Hah! Now *that* would be the capper.

If Payton comes here the only debate will be, what's the more anti-climactic signing? Burnitz in '05 or Payton in '06?

Not sure if its posturing or not, but Daniels made it sound like Wilkerson is going to be a Ranger this next season. They have no plans on moving him. Hopefully that will change if a few other free agent arms give him the Heisman.
