If Tejada is indeed traded, watch out for the Astros.

What could they offer them?

If I were Tim Purpura, I would offer them Brad Lidge and Adam Everett.

The Astros are in dire need of a middle-of-the-order hitter. They have no one in-house that even has a chance of filling that role.

Lidge is outstanding, but they could slide Wheeler or Qualls into the closer's role and probably still be pretty good there.

They could sign any league average SS via FA and do better than Everett (i.e. Alex Gonzalez would be an upgrade over Everett, and is actually a little younger than Everett), so they're really just trading Tejada for a very good closer. They'd have to overwhelm them (i.e. overpay) with young arms as they can't offer anything to fill SS.

Funny fact...looking at Alex Gonzalez's (former Marlin) page on Baseball reference, the most similar batter by age 28 is....Alex Gonzalez (our former gutless choking dog).

Don't underestimate Baltimore's need to get a recognizable name back if they trade Tejada.

Am I the only one here who would rather see Pie in a trade rather than Cedeno?

Pretty much.

We're more likely to have to give up Cedeno than Pie anyway, because Baltimore doesn't have an in-house SS option unless they move Roberts over there, in which case Walker would be on the table instead of Cedeno.

If Walker were traded to the Os, then the Cubs will have trouble signing any veteran free agents as long as Hendry is GM. EPatt would be a better choice to trade if Roberts were to move to SS.

I really don't believe the Orioles will trade Tejada however, if Hendry were to aquire him (without giving up Zambrano or Prior), add Bradley and keep Walker then:

1. Save for when they face that "tough" lefty there's no way Dusty can justify playing Neifi

2. If Wood starts 25 games they'll contend for NL Central

I agree with you 100%.

I don't think so - if Walker wanted an NTC, he should have asked for it. I don't think trading Walker will have any impact on the Cubs ability to sign FAs. Not that we are very good at it anyway.

I don't think this has been brought up in any other Tejada thread, but if Miggy comes to the Cubs, would anyone be comfortable with Patterson in right field? I'm figuring either Cedeno or Walker would be moved in the deal (O's would hope for a middle infielder) so the lineup could conceivably be:

Pierre

Murton

Lee

Miggy

Aramis

Walker/Cedeno/Neifi

Barrett

Patterson

Or do you think the Cubs would still need to trade for a right fielder?

If Tejada is a Cub AND Walker stays to play 2nd, then I could definitely live with Corey and hope he pans out in right.

I think this would largely negate the impact of getting Tejada. The enticing thing about Miggy is that you have production 1-8 in the lineup. Putting Corey in RF takes that away. I could live with a Burnitz type out there although I would still prefer Bradley or a high OBP option.

If Miggy is landed, then you caan live with an Encarnacion or something like that, but not Corey.

Somebody mentioned a few pages back that the Cardinals message boards were lighting up with possible trades for Tejada.

What did these wanna-be GMs want to do with Eckstein if they picked up Tejada? If he's part of the deal who do they expect to lead off for the Cardinals?

Posted

Given that Stockstill and Mazzone are both in Baltimore, I could see the following pitchers traded for Tejada:

Hill

Wellemeyer

Novoa

Stockstill might believe that under Mazzone's wing, those three might be able to reach their full potential.

As for the position prospects, I predict that Hendry will trade Pie or Cedeno but not both. (I'd prefer to keep Cedeno, who has some real baseball smarts. Keeping Ronny also would allow the Cubs to trade EPatt and Walker). Perhaps Harvey or Dope will be in the mix, too.

Tejada for Mulder & Wainwright and move Eck over to 2nd.

Yea, Mulder is going to want to make a long-term commitment to the Os.

Why would the Cards want to trade Mulder? Sure he has one year remaining on his contract, but the strength of their rotation hinges on a Carpenter/Mulder repeat, especially if Marquis is used in a trade and/or Morris signs elsewhere. Additionally, your offense is already ridiculous. Why must you insist on trying to make fools of us all with Tejeda?

He asked what the "wanna-be GMs" were thinking so I answered. Honestly I think this trade is more realistic than just about everything thrown around here.

I doubt we are going to lock Mulder up long term. Mulder is overrated anyway. We have a young pitcher named Reyes who will fill in if we trade him. I'd do the deal.

Maybe, maybe not. Corey's probably never going to become a "great" player in Chicago, but I envision him to be more of that 772 OPS guy (2004) than the 602 OPS we saw this past season.

Eckstein goes to the Orioles in this deal.

My hatred for the Cardinals, which is extremely high right now, will be doubled if they get Miguel Tejada.

Don't worry, the Cards main focus seems to be adding pitching not subtracting it therefore I don't think Walt would be interested in this trade. Another thing, I doubt we can afford to add Miggy's contract.

That would leave the rotation awfully thin with no money sign anyone. I don't see why you would make that deal CFC. Mulder is a solid starter (though you don't seem to like him).

It seems like the Cards were willing to expand payroll in order to get Burnett they might do the same for Miggy and Morris? I agree it doesn't completely make sense. *sigh*
