The Diamondbacks' pursuit of a centerfielder has brought them full circle - once more, they are trying to land Chicago's Cory Patterson. Last season after the trade deadline had passed, Arizona put a claim in on Patterson after the Cubs had tried to slip him through waivers. The Cubs pulled the offer back and Arizona stayed with Sean Green and Luis Terrero in center. Now that the Cubs have acquired Juan Pierre to man centerfield, the Diamondbacks are again showing interest in Patterson and could land him given that Chicago does not have a spot for him.

Wonder what type of prospect they'd give up for him or if Shawn Green's available. He's from Chicago correct??

I wouldn't mind the Cubs sending Patterson to some mid or small market team for a good prospect or two. There have to be small & mid market organizations that value Patterson quite a bit, as he could blow up and post a .800 ops, and be a steal. Jmo but teams like NY, Boston, LA and Anaheim are bad matches for CPatt.

I don't think Patterson is that great a match for a small market team, unless the Cubs eat his salary which will most likely be around 3 million (give or take).

What kind of a package would it take to get Green and Vasquez?

Don't get me wrong, there are many options I would rather have then Green, but we could do worse as well.

Patterson and ??? for Green/Vasquez

I'd like to make a big trade with Arizona with just the Cubs or a 3 way trade. I think they have a lot of answers for that right field problem.

A very nice trading partner indeed that Arizona team.

What do you think we could get for him? Make a package that includes Shawn Green and Javier Vasguez? We'd of course have to give them more than Patterson.

Maybe not if the Cubs take on those contracts. I'd rather have Vasquez and one of those OF young hitters and then sign Rondell White or trade for Bradley and call it an off season.

If AZ is interested, they can take a nap for about 10 days and try and get him. Hopefully, they can get something useful for CP, I just question if there's interest beyond marginal.

What's on your radar from AZ?

I like Green & his .832 ops, and that he's a left-handed bat. AZ's a hitter's park correct?? Moving to the Central from the NL West could give Green's slugging a boost.

Tracy and Vasguez would make my offseason.

As two have said Chad Tracy or the other young guy whose name escapes me. I wouldn't mind Williams, Harvey and Cpatt deal for Tracy and Vasquez.

They're not especially interested in moving Green.

They'd like to move Gonzalez and possibly Glaus.

agreed. i don't think there's any way the cubs are going to pay him.

Zero chance the Cubs non-tender Patterson, IMO.

He's not going to get 2.5+ to play as the 4th Of'er they'll probably end up trading him, but if it comes to down non-tendering or bringing him back, he'll be a FA.

They're not going to bring him back, unless they feel he can play RF, and I can't see it.

Strongly disagree. I'll bet you an I-told-you-so, if it comes to that.

with how anemic that division is, any team stands a shot at winning it. that being said, I don't see AZ trading anything that would be useful for them in 2006 for Patterson.

however, there is Vazquez who has demanded a trade. is Chicago far enough east for him?

Isn't Gonzo a fan favorite? Surprising they'll move him.

Can't see why they'd give up a couple of young guys like Tracy & Glaus.

Green has a NTC clause and would probably want his 2008 paycheck guaranteed to waive it, even in the unlikely event they'd trade him.

Gonzalez is a 10/5 guy and would probably want his 2007 paycheck guaranteed to approve a trade.

If there's any truth to the whole travel to his family thing, it would have to be. Chicago would probably be third only to Miami and NY as far as ease of travel home. Well, maybe Atlanta as well.

Patterson, cash, two prospects for Tracy?

In all seriousness, ship him to Arizona for a midlevel prospect. It'd be much more than CPatt is worth.
